The turnover was flukey. Ball placement was perfect and Ricky makes that play 9 times out of 10. He just wasn’t ready that time for some reason, which is crazy because he looked to be telling Mertz to find him right before the play. Either way, that one is hard to really prevent, especially from the sideline. The penalties have to be cleaned up though.
I know what the depth chart indicated and 14 did play (and I thought played well), but it was 16 that whiffed on that first play. Also, I've noticed that the depth chart doesn't indicate always indicate who is on the field on play 1 during the Napier era...I've seen the same situation in other games.
I’ll say this…Shemar James and Austin Barber both had themselves a game last night. They were on POINT
I felt bad for Damieon George Jr. on that holding call where he grabbed the Utah player and threw him to the ground. After all that was always legal when he was with Bama.
How many times does it need to corrected that 16 is Moten. The VETERAN TRANSFER from Michigan that got torched on the first play. Also, Austin Barber on the OL is a returning starter.
That's a reasonable point. Unfortunately, we won't be playing an ACC schedule the next few years and half of the fanbase already suffers from a severe case of "I want it all and I want it now" syndrome. But even if BN rights the ship a bit as the seasons wears on, this is not going to be pretty, nor will it be easy. The "Sunshine Gators" will raise absolute hell every step of the way - one way or the other. C’est la vie, c’est la guerre. GG!
It will take a couple of years and recruiting cycles in order to right the ship. It is what it is....says me, Rip Van Winkle.
Don’t know about Barber but James played really well. Now I believe James will be the breakout player on defense this year.
Mostly correct. But if the opposing team sells out to stop the run, then you just can't run with impunity against a quality opponent. This isn't the old days of Nebraska football. Everyone has to have a way to overcome a viable strategy. IMO, the pass calls had some holes in it. I thought the correct play, even before the game, was to throw slants and a couple of bombs to prevent the linebackers and safeties from being too tunnel-visioned. And what we got instead was more conventional passing which resulted in pass rushing issues against us. Does Napier have a blind spot?
Believe me, I'm not making excuses. But we have one player on defense that started against Utah last year. New DC, almost all new O line and new QB. It's a rebuild whether we like it or not. And we don't like it. Oh how I would love to hear the phrase "the Gators don't rebuild, they reload." Maybe in three years we'll hear that. Not this year, for sure.
IMO, Castell had a much better game than Moten. Completely understand why that True Freshman is starting. Hopefully he turns into the next eraser.
Shemar played his arse off. He can cover some ground and doesn't miss tackles. Did you notice the stat line for Princely? Utah ran 53 plays and he didn't record a single stat. He got whipped. Another interesting stat -- 24 players got in the game on D (5 true Freshman). That is a heavy rotation. Could have attributed to how long it took the coaches to get the play called? Good to see Wingo, Lyons and Weston get a few tackles. Searcy played a lot and did well. Overall, I thought the D had a good game. That unit will get much better too based on the rotation.
Will Miles shared a stat that we out gained them roughly 105-12 in the 3rd quarter but were out scored 7-0. I don’t understand how they could look so utterly unprepared for the first game of the season. I would say I haven’t been that disappointed in a UF game in a long time but I honestly probably said it on here at least twice last year lol.
