Utah went super conservative in the second half. They looked like they thought they had the game in total control. They also had a 2nd and 3rd string Qb.

I didn’t think the defense played that well. First half guys streaking wide open, no pressure on the qb, poor job containing the qb run. And this was against Utah, forget legit WRs and nfl QBs.

Not a single starter from last year on the O line…cmon guy. It was hard to watch but be reasonable. Our starting center being out was a big deal. Need him back asap

If that were true we would’ve had this problem last year. It was 5 new starters. That is the problem. Need more experience and our starting center back asap

That first play put our TRUE FRESHMAN SAFETY (on his literal first snap ever) in a horrible position. If you watch it again the CB fell on the WR underneath the safety, so he had to commit. The second he did, the ball was thrown over his head so he was awkwardly running to the ball and ended up tripping Marshall so the WR walked in for a TD. Horrible spot to be put in on your literal first snap ever lol

Situational playcalling was a big problem. Utah wasn't a juggernaut but they had the feel and guts to make big (scoring) plays when it was the right time. UF basically just ate a bunch of empty calories in the middle of the field but had no ability to convert into actual points. Everyone remembers Spurrier's great ability was knowing when to go for the throat.

I’d sit him for the next game to give him a chance to heal up.

You didn't just compare our offense with Bama's and UGA's? Lose 24-11 to teams and you will never get a single 5 star. So that means still losing these kind of games. The fact is, the defense was the worst unit not the ST. We had zero sacks against their 2nd and 3rd string QBs. Did we even hurry them on any play? If their 2nd and 3rd string QBs with zero starts can do that against us, Tennessee's QB is going to throw for 500 yards on us.

We lost the game because the OL was atrocious. I don't care who the OC was, no one could have done much with OL play as bad as we saw last night.

I thought we lost more due to the penalties in crucial situations. We killed multiple drives of our own, and extended theirs. The OL wasn’t great, but it was the penalties that really killed us.

Exactly, penalties by the OL (3 false starts on 3rd and short and a terrible holding penalty). They also gave up 5 sacks.

Let's see what happens if he can string together two or three top 5 classes in a row. If not, then take action. Until then, it looks similar to how Norvell was performing in his second year.

You’re right, the OL needs work. Both on technique and discipline. Hopefully we get our starting center back soon. We might be surprised how much of a difference that alone will make in both of those areas. That job is slightly more than just snapping the ball.

There were also some alignment penalties and of course the two guys wearing the same number that really screwed us too though.

That's how I saw it too.
    #1 Penalties
    #2 OL
    #3 ST

I thought Mertz looked much better than I expected. He was calm in the pocket and was accurate. He is going to have a solid year.

I was not expecting a year 2 Napier team to have so many stupid penalties. He is a stickler for details.

Too many mistakes. The play calling gets cute in crucial situations. Pre snap penalties in the redzone dooms us again. 3-4 turnovers.... Utah scored atleast 14 points off of em

When the phuck are we going to find a coach who cares about Special teams. They may not win games, but they will surely help you lose games. Can't be meh in 2 out of 3 phases & expect to win. Especially on the road.

Outside of the first play, the defense played ok. Why that safety bit on the crosser with a post coming at you is beyond comprehension tho.

Utah is solid, well coached... but this was a winnable game

I think it was huge honestly. I want those 1st 2 offensive drives back also.

9 penalties for like 55-75 yards. Atleast 5 of those either killed offensive drives or extended Utah. That special teams penalty swung momentum immediately back to Utah. They took advantage of turnovers also.

The starting safety was the true freshman, unless they changed the depth chart. It was literally the first play

I think this game comes down to the inability to run. The mistakes are awful, and I'm surprised the O Line isn't ready. Yes, it's early, but that is the key to this kind of offense and with two coaches it's just not excusablet that they can't run block or line up correctly. Establish the run, quarterback who can make most of the passes and quality receivers. But, without any semblance of running attack this offense will stall in the red zone again and again. Without a running quarterback the linebackers are just lining up back they're ready to smash anyone who gets through the line, and the O line is getting chewed up without the defensive line needing any help. Maybe he needs to deploy a fullback or a tight end to help with run blocking. But this isn't going to fly.
