Stored/security issues are not an issue. In a school any more than any other place.

Good luck accessing my cameras if you break into my building. (Hint, it would take more than some Karen and a maga hat.)

Teachers are not above the rest of society when it comes to such things. A school has more valuable contents than a bank does, yet we think it should all be kept off camera?

    Nonsense.

I think it is. Some of them hold their position in too high a regard. If my kids are there and I pay for it, I think a camera to protect them is reasonable. Day cares do it all the time. Preschools do it all the time.

Heck, some of them do it with live feeds for parents.

I meant impossible for these guys to take off their teaching goggles.

I’m really not big on ubiquitous cams though.

I read a little about FERPA last night, there are, of course, lawyers already arguing that parents have a right to review any school recordings, since part of FERPA says parents can review all educational records involving their children. So there is definitely a conflict there between the privacy component and the parents rights component.

Probably more appropriate for your youth group leaders at church.

What the crap does that mean?

And here's a little info....There are cameras in my church where groups meet. Pretty much a product of the day and age we live in.

Teachers are sacred cows to some.

Look, they are a crucial thread in the fabric of our society. They are underpaid and mistreated often. But the blanket defence echo that comes up here from some is just off base and out of touch.

Parental rights outweigh a teachers rights when it comes to my kids, all day, every day.

And if a camera adds accountability and helps LEO in an emergency, then we should be willing to do that. Removing audio solves any problem the teachers unions would have and removes ammo from the Maga Karens of the world.

But no, we have to dig in and defend our side with no conversation I guess.

As is the presumption by many on the right that teachers are "grooming" kids, "convincing" kids they are trans, teaching CRT in elementary school, and other similar BS.

"Our kids," which is why (although it's much more complicated) schools must NOT be run like businesses. I once thought we needed more business-minded people running schools, but have come full circle against that way of thinking.

I simply disagree that a little camera in the corner (euphemism btw) isn't gonna change things and it's more than just the teacher - it's how children will respond. While supervising student teachers I've observed many instances in which video recording or video conferencing was used - always resulted in changed behaviors by the students.

Please. YOUR parental rights outweigh every other parent’s rights?

Here’s the thing, you said no audio so what would be the purpose of the camera as it relates to the original post? It’s funny that you bought into the OP because it reinforced your particular worldview. Nevermind that the situation was investigated and proven to be false, no camera needed. I hate that they gave Karen 100K but understand that it was the cheaper option.

BTW, a lot of school districts use the RAVE app. It’s on a teacher’s personal cell phone to alert 911/law enforcement. No camera needed.

Back to the original topic: Can someone explain why secondary schools need to host Equality Clubs that are specific to sexual/gender orientation? I'm not fully against it and confess to not knowing enough to have an informed opinion about it, but at the outset, I feel like it potentially opens a dangerous can of worms and opens the school/children to harsh and dangerous ridicule. Maybe I'm wrong. Appreciate any feedback

Agree. The idea that some teachers hold their profession in too high regard is ridiculous. Everyone should hold it in high regard. The rightwing idea that teachers are the enemy has been incredibly damaging to this country.

I have worked in private and public schools. I have trained teachers across the country. Granted it’s been a few years.
However, if I was teaching today I’d welcome a camera . If I do my job I’m not worrried about it. I never sat behind my desk, never used the computer or my phone during class.. was always up and moving around the classroom.
The camera would be there to PROTECT me.
Hiw many times have we seen a student film something with a cell phone and only show a snippet that makes the teacher or admin look terrible.. only to find mount the rest of the story later. Cameras would stop that from happening.
W have cameras across our nation in every conceivable place. Even the neighbors ring cameras film you not picking up the dogs dropping from someone else’s yard.
Cameras in the classroom don’t bother me.. not if I’m doing the job the way I was trained.

Hell, from the title I thought the teachers did some impromptu surgery on the kid.
