Yes, you are correct about The 12th Man. It is Norwegian. Even as I wrote that, in the back of my head something was saying that geography is not right. Thanks for the correction.
I watched Decision to Leave a couple months ago and really liked it. It’s a detective story on its face, but it packs a serious emotional punch. Though I should note that I am slightly obsessed with South Korean cinema and Park Chan-Wook in particular, so this movie may not hit others in the same way.
Have you seen The Battleship Island, about 400 Korean laborers trying to escape from harsh forced labor on Hashima Island during the Japanese colonial era?
We just started watching the third season of The Chosen. It’s a dramatization of the last three years in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. There are some added characters and interactions not in the Gospels, but they are consistent with the story. I would think this would be interesting even for non-Christians, because the writing, directing, and acting are so good. It’s a compelling drama with some humor thrown in. Believe it or not, it’s not really preachy either.
I second this, I liked it a lot. Drive My Car was Japanese, but kind of a similar vibe to me, though less of a mystery.
I saw Hereditary over the weekend. That was quite a movie. Put on your big boy pants and make plenty of trips to the bathroom if you’re gonna make it through.
Just watched HERO - The Extraordinary Life & Times of Mr. Ulric Cross Cross what is the most decorated West Indian RAF pilot in World War II. After receiving numerous medals for heroism and service, he studied law in England. Unable to find work in England, he went to Africa, where he held high-level positions in multiple countries as they achieved independence. The movie is a mixture of documentary and drama. There is a narrator and they use archival footage for generic scenes, but the story of his life is acted out. I found it very interesting.
Ha! I mean when you’re scared, some people will move about to avoid the suspense. This was an interesting and somewhat scary film.
Great recommendation! Story was unique; I'd never heard of Paimon. Lead actress did an incredible job. And yes, very disturbing!
