ESPN Televising Regular Season College Football Games At Movie Theaters ESPN will televise an estimated 75 games for the upcoming college football season as part of a theatrical distribution agreement with Theater Sports Network, ESPN announced Tuesday. The agreement covers each of the six bowl games played on New Year’s Day—including the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Rose Bowl and the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, among others—in addition to the national championship, according to the network.
Hey if it means more fans watching, go for it The article said the movies will be in the university towns
Anyone remember sensurround in the 70s. Two huge subwoofers shaken the whole theater....lol. The movie Earthquake was wild.
Eh. I watched the first half of the '95 MNC gane against Nebraska at a theater (left at halftime, for obvious reasons) and don't have fond memories, independent of the final score. Let's just say if I can't be at the actual game, I much prefer my big screen TV at home.
I have to settle for the 50" because it's on the back patio. Although we will both miss out on paying $7 for a bucket of ice and a splash of cola.
On the surface that (movie theater) does not sound bad, however, how many drunk 20 year olds will sit in a theater quietly when "their" team is getting pounded? I think "Drive-Ins" are a better idea. Just another scheme to "Make-Money" on College Football via the visual media? Me-thinks sports bars are a far more appropriate place to watch in the public sphere. Well, maybe it will add "security guard" opportunities for the security industry.
If, and I said if, they had it on a really big screen with Atmos sound and so it feels just like being at the game, then I could see there being a customer base. But falling short of that experience, at home with easy to get to bathrooms and better/cheaper beverages/food is WAY more attractive. ESPN+ is for all those teams that don't have TV contracts.
Catching a game at the drive-in would be pretty awesome. Watching events at the movie theater is for events where the sound matters. DCI finals at the movie theater are amazing. College football at the movie theater is not nearly as good at college football at my house.
I get the appeal of watching the game with fellow Gators when far from UF in a different State or country. But is that not what a sports bar does for free? Will they serve alcohol at the theatre?
