How often does an unranked team play a top 15 OOC in a true road night game... and leave with a W? I bet it doesn't even happen more than once a year in all of college football. I expect Utah to be really, really good this year, so a Gator victory could conceivably be the best OOC win or one of the best OOC wins in all of college football. I BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM!
Honestly, half will be complaining about a host of things and wondering how we will squander our next game against a real team.
We won last year's season opener against a top 10 Utah team and most of us were jacked up looking forward to a great season. That of course ended up not happening. I'm obviously hoping for a win, but the season doesn't start for me until the UT game, that's when we find out where this team really is.
I’m psyched for the game too! And I would love that but the amount of assumptions is so large here that I just hope we win. Yeah, Utah is good, very good if Cam is even in some shape but maybe it’s also Utah and we weren’t so good last year. Maybe we are this year, but then maybe aren’t. Either way, I LOVE that that docuseries came out because it really branded us to a lot of people when I thought the oposite would happen when I first heard about it. Makes me wish Mullen had figured it out here even more. But it’s Napier Time and Gator Time and let’s go out a put on a 3 TD whooping on these pretenders! well I just heard Cam was out. Well now forget it for them. Sad, I didn’t want to hear excuses. I wonder what the odds are now.
Last year, I thought we would win the first game, but I was not sure what would transpire afterwards. I was somewhat concerned that there would be some irrational exuberance that would lead to a slingshot effect when we played SEC ball. And that happened the next week. I try to watch for fun but also discern what I think is the makeup of the team. Obviously, one or two games isn't a guarantee of the future, but you can at least see what is working, what has some more work to do with athletic but inexperienced players, and what appears to be a real weakness in the team. Obviously, the most important thing that can happen tonight with a win is to accomplish a quality win and perhaps change the mindset of last year (and quite a few before) to real Billyball. After that, you need lots of bodies along the lines and some other parts to counter any injuries. We are still limited in the depth department to contend for the SECC. Gonna take a lot of luck to not have any tough player losses.
I've heard enough glowing statements from players about their teammates, team and coaches to really appreciate what is happening. Win or lose this team looks like a great team. Even a great thoroughbred starts with shaky legs though. Hopefully that explains last year.
Even with Rising out, let’s remember that their backup QB has been taking 1st spring reps at practice for a while. Just hoping he’s no where good as Rising won’t cut it. Our defense needs to go after him like their hair is on fire. GO GATORS,
It means basically nothing, as they are playing their 3rd QBs, unless we beat them by 3+ TDs (which probably will not hapeen). However, we'd be 1-0 and probably could avoid a losing season for sure, that's a plus. If we beat TN in the swamp, it will mean a lot,
Honestly, I'm just looking for steady improvement in all areas. I want the team to build momentum and always be trending up. I'd be happy for a winning season that shows this team is on the rise.
He's looked good in limited action - starting his first home game - a huge one! Will he rise to the occasion or succumb to the pressure of the stage and the fierce Gators rush?
