Currently raining like hell with the wind around 36mph, gusts of 53. Power is out across the county. I'm at work and we generate our own power, so I feel pretty safe at the moment.
Yep, moving fast. Also appears from Tampa to Tallahassee that the most populated areas didn't get the worst impacts. Still appears to be significant flooding in many places but this could have been a lot worse even. Keep an eye out for pop up tornadoes.
you said your house is at 11.0 and water is within 1.5' of it at low tide? that would be 9' of surge which would seem high for Tampa. Hopefully your neighbors judgement is off a bit and you have more room to spare. I wouldn't have anticipated more than 4 - 5 feet of surge in Tampa.
agreed, sometimes buildings can take the wind for a limited duration but not repeatedly over a longer period. Ian sat on us and wore us out when it slowed and turned
Thanks. That is a very informative feed. I’m surprised my wife is not located it before giving her interest in such things.
Surprisingly, we are still getting winds and some limited rising water in Tampa. Not sure I really understand how all that works on the water side, but it’s still happening. Our home is very safe, but there are low points on the river in the neighborhood, which still have water rising. And the winds are actually stronger now than they were around midnight last night
tide is coming in and south winds still pushing water. your water will not really start to recede until tonight when the tide goes back out. likely rise another 2' or so with high tide around 3 depending on where you are
Howard Frankland Bridge, connecting Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, is closing due to rising waters. The noon high tide is supposed to be a foot higher than last night. Not sure I fully understand all this, but the water still rising here.
Good God. I put the weather channel on and the guy is standing there in one continual lecture - don't go out in this, if you make contact with a fallen wire you die, don't go out in this, it's dangerous. stay home. it's dangerous ... over and over ...
