Not sure if anyone has been following this closely or has any insight. Admittedly, I haven't read the briefs, but it seems that the State of Florida is doing everything it can to prevent the voters from having the opportunity to vote on this.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody targets company in marijuana ballot fight

The court twice ruled that previous initiatives aimed at authorizing recreational use of marijuana did not meet constitutional muster. Under the Florida Constitution, ballot initiatives must not be confusing to voters and must address a single subject.

Lawyers for Safe & Smart Florida argued that, in drafting the 2024 proposal, they followed a "clear roadmap" laid out by the court in the previous rulings rejecting marijuana measures.

"Yet the attorney general now asks this court to suddenly change course, holding that the language previously approved — repeatedly and unanimously — is no longer sufficient, despite this court's description of that language as the model for sponsors just two years ago," they wrote in last month's brief.

But the state's attorneys urged justices to ignore their prior decisions and focus on the current measure.

Recreational marijuana on the ballot is the Republicans worst nightmare.

The court was always the biggest obstacle, but this seems like a pretty big Hail Mary by the state.

Could it not be scheduled for an off year election? It is just a matter of time, so Florida has to bite the bullet. If turnout is the concern, simply push it to an off cycle year and get her done.

I dislike legalese... Here's the way this would be written. "Do you want the right to get high?" " If so then vote "yes" for the pot-head initiative."

    Make it easy to understand.

Florida has been trying, for years, to make these amendment proposals convoluted and unnecessarily ambiguous.

For some it's medicine. I used to like it in HS and my early 20's, it's very different now. Not my thing but if someone else prefers weed to drinking, who am I to tell them no?

I understand the medical part and I empathize with the people that need it to dull the pain and suffering of disease. But we already have legal medical marijuana in the state of Florida. Why would that make things better for them? Self medicate without the state... and all the costs that doctors and insurance brings to getting it? Seems reasonable...

Lol... nah, I just like pretending to be one on the world's stage. :D

When it comes to weed... I can see a need to use that versus alcohol if you just need to numb-out for a while. Alcohol does it with far more bad side effects than weed does.

Really has nothing to do with turnout or whatever. The state Republicans opposed medicinal MJ, have tried to water it down at any opportunity and don't want legalization. They just want it off the ballot period, and will fight it with the same sort of lame technicalities if they have to again.

One more consideration should be that if this is still federally illegal. If we're going to break federal laws on weed than what's to stop our state from changing all drug/medicine laws? Why should we ever not allow people to get Ivermectin or any other medicine or drug that we want?

We should also be able to get Pyridoxamine a completely safe and natural form of vitamin B-6.

Why should we even have a FDA?

If we decide to do recreational weed then we can surly legalize a natural vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxamine) variety.

Truelieve has poured money and resources into a recreational initiative because the medical dispensaries are losing money hand over fist. The complete vertical integration, with no room for horizontal integration, has made it near impossible for dispensaries to make money. Their only path to profitability rests with allowing recreational use, as well as modifying laws and allowing horizontal integration.

Its been legalized in other states despite conflicts with Federal law, it really means nothing unless the government suddenly wants to raid dispensaries or generally thumb their nose at states. The main issue is simply in the financial side, which is more of a burden for the business (who cant just accept credit cards or deposit money in bank like other businesses) than the consumer.
