Reports are that Bronny James collapsed during a USC practice from cardiac arrest. The report also states that he is in stable condition at a hospital. Hope for the best for Bronny.
Bronny has been clubbing late at night in LA living the celebrity life. Southern California might not be the best place for him. Thought of the UF/FSU game when this occurred to Bronny
In my last year of high school I went to the same high school as Ellis Files. Incredible player but also a troubled kid. All State first team talent in Illinois and expelled from school and played his Senior high school year at Aurora West instead IIRC. Then went to UNLV. He died from a cardiac problem playing pick-up or in practise. I think it might have been a pickup game. Because of the time it happened everybody I knew thought it was drug related but that was just racist.
It can happ It can happen at any time. Pistol Pete Maravich died in a pickup game at age 40. Jim Fixx, the guru of running, died at 52 while running. Both guys were in great shape but weren't aware of the flaws in their bodies.
Incredible that pistol Pete lived his life and played at his level all without a left coronary artery. He would likely have lived much longer with today's medicine. Can't believe he didn't have significant symptoms on a regular basis taxing his heart like that.
Not sure if this was sudden cardiac arrest, but SCA is the cause of 2,000+ youth deaths each year (3-5% of all childhood deaths in the US). It is serious. Sadly, it is also relatively easily screened for with a simple ECG. A Florida not for profit is prioritizing screening for kids to stop these deaths. Who We Play For If your kid or grandkid is going to play sports, have this simple screening (most European and other first world countries require and pay for screening before a kid can play a sport). The founders of who we play for watched their best friend die on a high school soccer pitch, needlessly. Hope Bronny is ok and end of public service announcement.
Because the person who died was black. And being black in America creates a presumption that negative vices are associated with the culture. Had he been white there would have been no such presumption.
Opioid Overdose Deaths by Race/Ethnicity Opioid deaths and drug overdoses don’t distinguish by race. Higher percentage of whites impacted. Not like imprisonment or incarceration where race certainly could be a determinate (higher percentage or convictions than overall population percentages would suggest). There are a higher number of whites on food stamps for example. Agree that some perceptions are incorrect or inaccurate stereotypes.
Agree. The one thing that also needs to be considered is the % of the population each race represents in the US. White: roughly 5/8 Black: 1/8 Hispanic 1.5/8 and everyone else 0.5/8 The numbers on Black and Hispanic would be reversed if in line with population statistics. It was a shock to learn that there are ~50% more Hispanic than Black people in the US, thought it would be the other way around
Congenital heart defect was the reason per ESPN so take all of the talk about drugs and party and can it. Sounds like it correctable.
Your numbers are skewed because more than half of the Latinos are as dark as I am, and even though they have Latin heritage, without articulation, appear to be just as black as any other black. Then of those 5/8 "whites" that you claim, how many of them have parents or grandparents who are black or half-black?
