That was an exciting match. The crowd was raucous, and the teams were all in. We were worried after the first set, as we were way behind, but we made it to 18 to make it presentable. Then, as @johnny_cakes said, these ladies showed tremendous heart. This was a big win, with 2 freshmen(Martin and Hutson) playing significant roles. Anna Dixon played a good match. She is a major contributor. Then, Elli, Emily, Trinity, Gabbi, and Alexis played very well. Alexis was inconsistent in setting at times, especially early. She was setting wide and low. But she came on as the match went on and played great defense. I am saying negative about her; she had 55 assists, 3 aces, and 7 digs. That shows how elite she is. It was a great time with plenty of Gator Fans in attendance. @johnny_cakes, our connections are super secret; if we told you, we would have to kill you.
Besides Essix, who played MB? She led the team in blocks with 7, but neither Okammor nor Thomas made the stat lines. Martin was second in blocks with 5.
I was peeved that I couldn't pick up the TV broadcast, but I listened in on the radio. Exciting win! Especially that late rally in the 4th game. Wow.
Gotta be excited about the Gators' future, with Martin and Hudson. Just wait 'til they get 15 or 20 matches under their belts.
Come on…..from reading this thread it seems they are not going to get any coaching so they are already maxed out. Mary is just lucky Penn State was exhausted from the travel down to Tampa….or maybe it was the low altitude….or possibly the humidity…..or time change……or or or. Great job ladies!
Dixon filled the other middle spot. She hit mostly from the right side. Blocking was an issue as we did not do a good job of closing blocks leaving too many single blockers against their best hitters.
I have watched Gator Volleyball for many years. For a long time we dominated the league and then had to play Big Ten, Big Twelve and Pac whatever number teams in the NCAAs. Those teams came out of strong competition and we were lucky to have home court. Lots of strong teams in those leagues. Now the SEC has lots of good teams and with the addition of Texas next year it will be really hard.
And a call so bad it likely cost us a final four trip and forced the change to allow replay challenges. Still makes me mad.
I think the shorthorns should be more afraid of the Gators making it harder for them. Which year was it that the refs screwed the Gators? The series should be 16-9 (16-8 Under Wise): TEXAS SERIES RECORD 15-10 (15-9 UNDER WISE) 3-set: 3-4; 4-set: 4-3; 5-set: 8-3 Home: 7-4; Away: 6-4; Neutral: 2-2 2018 L, 2-3 N 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 10-15 2017 W 3-1 H 25-16, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21 2015 L 2-3 A# 25-22, 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-17 W 3-1 A 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 26-24 2014 W 3-2 A 26-28, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12 L 1-3 H 16-25, 28-26, 17-25, 16-25 2012 L 0-3 A# 22-25, 24-26, 17-25 L 0-3 N 27-29, 22-25, 24-26 2011 W 3-2 N 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-12 2010 W, 3-2 H 25-11, 27-25, 16-25, 20-25, 16-14 2007 L 1-3 H# 27-30, 31-29, 16-30, 15-30 2004 L 1-3 H 30-28, 17-30, 24-30, 15-30 2001 W 3-0 A 30-23, 30-13, 30-17 1998 W 3-1 H 11-15, 15-7, 15-3, 15-11 1996 W 3-2 A 14-16, 15-8, 8-15, 15-10, 15-12 1995 L 2-3 H# 15-9, 7-15, 8-15, 15-10, 13-15 W 3-2 A 15-9, 8-15, 13-15, 15-7, 15-9 W 3-0 H 15-8, 15-12, 15-4 1994 W 3-0 H# 15-13, 15-8, 17-15 W 3-2 H 15-7, 12-15, 15-11, 11-15, 15-9 1993 W 3-2 A# 15-11, 15-8, 11-15, 12-15, 15-10 L 0-3 A 8-15, 11-15, 7-15 1992 W 3-2 H# 8-15, 14-16, 15-6, 15-2, 15-11 1991 W 3-1 N# 3-15, 15-10, 15-9, 15-5 1987 L 0-3 A# 9-15, 4-15, 3-15
Thought the screw job was at UTex. I remember watching it on TV, but it has been quite a while since then. That looks like our Gator blue on the floor.
