    1. I am going all in on my prediction that Biden does not run. So pathetic if that's who they trot out.
    2. I don't think it is unreasonable at all that pubs would nom a woman in a world without that apprentice buffoon.

it seems that team Biden is enjoying the ride. heard him talk about how much his granddaughter helped to convince him to run the first time and now tht same granddaughter got married at and moved into the WH. Agree that the dems should not run Biden or Harris but I suspect that team Biden will keep pushing him to run so they can enjoy the ride

Wow, she really ripped him there. How brutal

I'd love to see a plan from any republican other than "tax cuts from the rich" and "making women 2nd class citizens nationwide."

I haven't yet learned about Haley's platform, but perhaps this is part of her appeal.

As to Biden, he would need to tip his hand before too long, otherwise other candidates would not have enough time to jump in he race. But I agree I’d rather him not be the nominee and definitely not Harris as the VP.

I don’t think being a woman is an outright disqualifier for republicans. They just have to be able to say the right things and be perceived as an ass kicker and a fighter.

Yeah, there is def an optimal date (or at least a range) to balance lame duckness vs. giving the other candidates time. Don't know what it is.

Him saying he'll run, IMO, is uninformative as it seems to be the right thing to say if he is & if he is not. For now.

The only thing more pathetic than Biden v. Trump is redoing it 4 years later.

p.s. while I am embarrassing myself, I also STILL predict Bootsie does NOT run.

p.p.s. Jags win SB in 2024!

Not dems. Libs. (Way left libs in particular) Many dems would welcome a strong female candidate on the conservative side. They would view it as progress in the big picture I believe.

The more liberal edge would be embarrassed by sending an old white dude out as the nominee vs a young woman.

Only the old part bothers me. The right wing narrative that he is senile is way off but the actuarial tables give him a 49% chance of dying before his term ends if re-elected.

Yeah, I’m not sure about that, but I think Haley would have a good shot at beating Biden or just about any Democrat out there now, but unfortunately I can’t see the Republicans going that direction.

Apparently, the uptick in teenage girls contemplating suicide can be laid at the feet of the trans community

Disgusting pandering. I get that she was preaching to a particular choir but…

Nikki looks like the clear winner of the debate…from the wash examiner.
“Even up against Ramaswamy's cheek, Haley wasn't a Karen. She was simply clever, cool, and collected.

Haley, an accountant before she launched her political career as governor of South Carolina, name-checked her competitors for their complicity in Uncle Sam's spending spree that has resulted in the worst inflation in 16 years.”
Republican debate: Nikki Haley wins and it's not particularly close

Apart from her occasional pandering to Trump or some woke themes she would be by far the most serious and formidable candidate in the general.

The Republican Party seems to be trapped in some moment where a prerequisite to candidacy is saying something that unacceptable to me. It puts me in a bind, because 1) I really don’t want to automatically write off one of only two major US parties, but 2) unacceptable stances are unacceptable. I really hope they can shake this problem in the near future, but I’m not seeing any signs of it yet.

I’m curious. Do the Democrats have any stance that is unacceptable to you?

The Dems would love Haley. She has no real convictions and is skilled at the art of deception. Mrs. Haley is financed by coastal Republicans (Sea Island) and Wall Street donors. She and many of the candidates joined the race not to win, but to bow out and get behind DeSantis. This plan doesn't look like it will work with DeSantis loosing ground so quickly.

It’s a great question, phat. There is no traditional policy debate that I can think of, eg tax rates, abortion, where I find either side’s position unacceptable. These I find based on philosophies, and each side’s position is logical based on their own starting places.

Where I’m having trouble with the current Republicans is raising their hands about supporting Trump even if he were convicted before they even see the trial or evidence. Being beholden to conservative ideology is one thing, but it’s entirely another being beholden to one weird dude, as Kinzinger or someone put it.

As for the democrats, they haven’t yet hitched their wagons to an individual, but they do have several potential stances that I would find unacceptable if they ended up being barriers to entry, eg canceling of opposing views, student loan debt forgiveness. Also I find unacceptable the way some of them deal with race. I don’t think we can accept the claim that current discrimination is the way to remedy past discrimination. Again, I may be putting words into their mouths here, as we don’t yet have a democratic debate where the candidates raised their hands to any of these things, but if they did, I’d be in the same bind.
