I don't know how they could make a movie about Wagner that would appeal to anyone but Russians. Desperate Russians, looking for anything to be proud of after this war. Wagner got taken out of the fight before it was over, so in the end, they probably will not be all that significant. I could see Wagner playing the part of a bad guy in a Mission Impossible movie or something like that. Maybe a new Naked Gun movie.
Most likely the Kremlin had that objective, among others, by allowing Prigozhin to get as far as he did. Today’s events don’t exclude that. Prigozhin just wasn’t in on the plan. Putin and Lukashenko must have had a good laugh together when the plane went down.
I don’t understand. Doesn’t he know better than any of us how much Russia can’t stop winning? I mean, they’re gonna, like, overrun the base he defected to any day now. Any day now …
Of course Wagner is the epitome of evil but it's still a remarkable story. I bet FRONTLINE makes a good documentary about the rise and fall. As far as Hollywood is concerned anything that makes them a buck, they will film.
I know Russia is, outside of N Korea, one of the most repressed societies in the world. I wonder (with the murder of the entire Wagner leadership) if the rank and file make any "anti-Putin" moves. Of course, any that do will probably wind up dead, but then again, considering what Wagner does, an early death is probably no big deal to those persons anyway.
I agree with duchen on this one O&B - My opinion of course but the US has been and continues to be at political and ideological odds with Russia / Soviet Union since the Bolshevik revolution. Much of US foreign policy, especially militarily and strategicly has been to counter the threat. If left unchecked, I believe the world and of course the US is far less safe.
The 1420 Project on YouTube has a guy named Daniil running around, interviewing Russians, trying to goad them into expressing discontent with Kremlin policies. And this is tendered as evidence that Russia is a brutal dictatorship where, in reality, it stands as strong evidence that you can express strong dissent and not go to jail.
I don’t believe you understood the gif then. Praising Biden as wily. Come on. Even the Rock would roll his eyes on that. I’m all about pushing Russia back.
You don’t understand. If the U.S. appoints you as an enemy, you can’t have your reasons and you’re not allowed to push back.
Hehe, a certain poster here gives me a disagree bacon even when I agree with him. Reminds me of the Harding character, in One Flew Over the Cukoo’s Nest when he tells another patient, “Get off my side!”
That's really not how mercenaries think. The two main priorities are survival and the paycheck. They don't care much about fixing society's problems. If they go a while without a paycheck, then they might cause some trouble, but it is more likely to be individuals causing trouble, not the whole group. A few might be persuaded to join the regular army for the war if the pay is good enough. If Russia completely falls apart after they lose the war, then they might do something as a group to take power.
