Didn’t a lot of the for profit acute hospital systems do the same thing? PS…I know the answer is yes.
Were others fined for almost $2 billion? The answer is no. Rick Scott is still responsible for one of the largest medicare fraud schemes ever. But yeah go ahead and pat him on the back
No clue how you come to that conclusion but certainly none were even close to the level of Scotts company. P.S.... it sure sounds like you're rationalizing criminal behavior.
No, what HCA/Scott did is unlike anything I have seen in 35 years of working at high levels of Healthcare revenue cycle
So your take is Scott only won by a little so he's a weak candidate who only won because Florida leans red? You left out the part where Nelson was the incumbent who had won three consecutive elections for the senate. Incumbents are hard to beat. Entrenched incumbents are practically impossible to beat.
Wasn’t HCA larger than most of the systems back then? Hmmmm. Yeah. Guess that’s why the govt went after the big fish. I’m not saying it was right, but that is what hospital we’re doing back then.
Did you work for HCA, isasis, vanguard, tenet, CHS? Your experience is anecdotal no? Govt made an example out of HCA and broke the company up. Reimbursement tightened up after that.
Everybody stole 5 billion from the taxpayers so it doesn’t count? I thought that was trumps gig. Oh I get it Scott defrauds the taxpayers better than the kuchners and trump.
My take was that Rick Scott polls poorly, barely won his election by the narrowest of margins, has an exploitable position on abortion and social security, and the Democrats picked an excellent candidate to capitalize on those weaknesses giving them an even shot at the seat.
One adjusts scale by looking at "bed sizes". Yes, there was less much less healthcare consolidation then, but that does not equate to the conclusion you are making.
I added the second paragraph after channingcrowder put up his winner comment. Only I am responsible for that missive.
I have worked as a Revennue Cycle partner with virtually all those healthcare systems. Back in the day the Humana hospital system was the biggest system and my biggest client, they briefly renamed as Galen Healthcare before selling the hospitals (about 80 hosp) to HCA/Colombia in the mid 90's. FYI, Scott came from the Colombia side, not the traditional HCA side.....Colombia acquired BAMI under Scott and I remember hearing sketchy things coming from So Fl way back then. I am unsure what you mean by "broke the compay up" lol, they are now closer to 200 hospitals plus 1000's of ancillary facilities. What Scott spearheaded was unlike anything I have ever seen or heard of before or since.
I’m not saying it was right. I’m not even saying Rick is a great guy. Just saying hospitals were known for exploiting the loose oversight back then. You guys hating on Rick Scott seems more of a political issue to me.
You seem to be finding excuses for a criminal. Again, what HCA did under his leadership is way beyond anything that has occurred elsewhere. It is not remotely comparable. It is mind boggling to me that people could ever vote for the man for dogcatcher.
My background was placing reimbursement accountants within acute facilities all over the country. I spoke to reimbursement analysts, directors daily for years over the phone. You really do get to know people well as a hospital recruiter. I also placed some CDM, chargemaster people. Also, HCA was forced to split creating the lifepoint system out of Nashville. Rick Scott is probably no saint, but to say hospitals weren’t all taking advantage of the sweetness of little regulation is naive.
You obviously have your own bias. I really don’t care that much. I would vote against progressives no matter what the libbie spin may be. And there’s always libbie smearing against the pubs.
Try to put your bias and hatred for all things conservative away for a second. Every time you visit a HCP, don’t you think they all code your visit to best reflect the time and needs of the office and the patient? You have to be naive if you think this is still not happening on a smaller scale.
So if everybody does something illegal that makes it okay? I don’t hate conservatives. I consider myself to be conservative. What trump and the anti woman Republican Party is, is not conservative.
I don't vote by party...have probably voted for more republicans than Dems over the years. Scott is a non starter for anyone that cares about right vs wrong
