If the D prepares for Rising and there is no Rising that's energizing and the Utah back-up will be less effective by nature. If the D prepares for no Rising and Rising is miraculously cured (or has been taking snaps and it wasn't reported) it's deflating. Either way, prepare for Rising.
Personally I think we're in a great spot. It doesn't look like he will play, and it doesn't look like the top backup will play either, so we're likely looking at their 3rd string QB. And even if Rising does play, there's no way he could be anywhere close to 100%. So we're getting either a hobbled Rising or a 3rd stringer.
I've torn both my ACL's, If Rising plays, he'll be limited. If he hasn't been practicing normally, it will be a shock to him taking live snaps with one of those braces on. Its hard to explain, but when you first start playing in one of those braces, you feel stiff as hell and a lot less mobile in that leg until you get used to it. Just game plan for the Rising we played last year, theres no way he will be that, and being over prepared is never a bad thing.
Yes, it took me probably 2 years after my acl, that wasn’t even a complete tear, to fully accept it was no longer a significant vulnerability. In regards to football, I really never had full confidence in it again.
I am not saying Rising will be able to play or not but there is a big difference in you and top end college athlete and their access to the best health care in the world. I do agree even if he does play he is going to be limited to some capacity.
Oh, I completely agree. I was speaking more to the psychological implications of the injury, and how that impacts performance.
True but Shame Mathew’s was 8th on the depth chart. You just never know. We need to play our game. D will be improved and that will set the tone on the road.
I absolutely agree with your reasoning, I just have faith in the Human capacity for doing really stupid things if/when things get desperate. I honestly don't see CR being a major factor even if they do throw him in. But that doesn't mean they won't if they find themselves in real trouble against UF. I think we win either way, but I'm just an optimistic guy - in some regards, anyway.
Figuratively speaking, Johnny Manziel…. According to Netflix dude checked out on his team and spent the preseason partying
I was thinking of writing this exact thing when I read the post. I scroll down and find Skink already took care of business. Great minds think alike.
I still wouldn't get over confident. Some time back, we played f$u with a very average backup QB, he didn't make mistakes and they won. More recently, a few years ago, we played Mizzu with a (redshrt freshman in his first game as I recall) backup and he ripped us a new one. Don't count your chickens. Remember Trask coming in for an injured Franks? And Ohio State won the Natty with their 3rd string QB. Many D1 level teams have quality QBs on the bench.
I don’t believe fans over- or under-confidence has much impact on the team’s performance. Thus, we are free to use facts and reason. Cam Rising not playing or being severely limited has a non-zero impact. Water is wet. Etc.
I worry more about the oxygen concentration due to elevation. How long does it take one to get acclimated to that?
