I tend to participate during game day at half and then again in the 4th quarter. (If UF is winning) Otherwise it can get a bit squirmy following the team on the game thread. The "angry people" come out in force if the score is not in UFs favor.
CFN agrees and it's not just the QB or TE that may determine the outcome: "The offensive line is fantastic, the ground game will bash, and if it’s not Rising under center, Bryson Barnes is just experienced enough to know what he’s doing. All the O has to do at home is not screw it up, and special teams and the defense will take care of the rest. It’s not hyperbole to call this Kyle Whittingham’s strongest defense yet - or among the best. It’ll be great at getting into the backfield, it should keep the pressure on Mertz, and the linebacking corps is among the nastiest the Gators will see all season."
That may be true but I find the vitriol on game threads pretty intense. Nor am I immune, but I try to keep the negativity at low levels.
Barnes was their 2nd string QB last year and started and beat Wash St. He also drove the team for a TD in the Rose Bowl throwing a TD pass, so he has experience. It’s not like he’s a true freshman playing on the road. He’s not Rising, so that would be an advanfor us if Rising can’t go.
Some of them will still come out raising hell and going off on the coaches, team, as well as any even slightly more optimistic posters - and that's even if we do win. It's gonna' be "Welcome to Gripe Fest 2023" - one way or the other.
They certainly come out of the woodwork. I avoid that thread for the most part, as it starts to look like a Facebook post.
Thanks for the info Utah. Sorry to hear about the QBs. Sucks to have a promising season compromised by injuries. Here’s to a good game. On paper it may not be expected to be a close game, but I’m still excited to see the matchup.
My posture is this, I am more interested in the build headed into 24 and 25, as compared to record. Sure I would like to see UF win big this year, but I want to see recruiting continue to improve, the culture established, the trust earned and built. Just keep the locker room under control and show the competition that UF is coming back to prominence and will be in the playoffs rather soon.
Spot-on. Rising really impressed me in last year’s game. The team fed-off him. He reminds me of a lot of college QBs from the past hat we’re really good, but games didn’t translate beyond college.
Truer words were never spoken, I guess we have 3 or 4 big timers waiting to see what UF does on the field. Need to show those kids UF has a product and culture worth coming to.
Experience sure, but let's not overblow it. WSU: 17-27 for 175 yds (6.5ypa), though somewhat effective rushing. Rose Bowl va PSU: 10-19 for 112 yds (5.9ypa), -17 yds rushing His good games were against cupcakes.
I still don't see Rising playing. Find me an example in the last 30 years of a college quarterback not taking a snap during spring or fall practice, but starting game 1.
