https://floridaphoenix.com/2023/08/...ur-children-to-be-closed-minded-and-ignorant/ The introduction: “School’s in session. The kids have their new shoes and backpacks. The teachers have their new marching orders. In Ron DeSantis’ Florida, teachers are expected to present a version of the world in which “gender” is not to be spoken of, “gay” likewise, there’s no climate crisis — the weather’s always changing! — Shakespeareneeds to be toned down, the human body is disgusting, slavery had an upside, America is the best country that ever was and ever will be, and books that challenge any of these self-evident truths must be banned.”
this is all I need to know about here : Her work has appeared in the New York Times, the Times of London, the Guardian, the Washington Post, the Oxford American, and Flamingo.
When you put it all together and look at it like that, its sad. Thanks for posting - a real good read.
Hope you guys enjoyed reading your left wing false propaganda. That shit wasn't even in the category of fake news. It was a plain bull shit article intended, imo.
Looking forward to reading the comments from the “listless vessels” who refuse to see what is happening here.
You're right! Great newspapers with hard hitting pieces which the right wing ideologues don't like to educate themselves about as their minds are already made up, and facts be damned. It's good to know you aren't one of them after all. I'd heretofore pegged you as being an ideologue. I'm glad to be wrong. Welcome to the open mind crowd!
I can't believe there's a disagree with no explanation! After all, there's a lot to unpack in that piece, and it buggers belief to think someone disagrees with every single statement. On the other hand, it is Fred.
Thats all you need to know? How about reading the article before forming an opinion. It's interesting that you didn't mention that "Diane Roberts is an 8th-generation Floridian, born and bred in Tallahassee", a native Floridian.
I think we have often have trouble differentiating objective claims with perspectives. Perspectives of one side frequently appear to be bull shit to those of the other, but perspectives are not objective and therefore cannot really be false. There are some objective claims embedded in the article, such as DeSantis is endorsing use of PragerU materials in public schools, and PragerU is not a university. I believe both of these objective claims to be accurate. For me, I just don’t like central government takeovers, so I’m never going to be a fan of a governor dictating their values to be taught in school districts, even if I agreed with those values.
First off, it’s an opinion piece, not a news article. It may or may not contain salient, accurate facts; but, it’s her perspective throughout. OP/EDs are great. It’s why I’m here because this is essentially one big opinion page - as is hers. I disagree with it as essentially she’s like the PRAVDA headline after the USA athlete beat the Russian: “Russian wins Silver Medal - American finishes next to last.” - which is factually true and entirely misleading.
