I think the point of the OP was to highlight the idiocy of the request. Not to find a way to justify the idiocy.

I guess I could have accomplished the same results by running from the cops.

 

Asking violent men with severe anger issues and a whole bunch of other negative psycho-social issues to exercise restraint and schedule their mayhem in a communally sensitive way seems like a non-starter. Also, it sounds defeatist. Like, we can't stop you guys, but could you cut us a break here? And mass shooters, could you limit your victims to 20 or less? Thanks in advance.

Actually, it could hurt to ask. Some of the people involved in these shootings and gang violence are not the brightest apples in the barrel. They’ll hear this and think “ah, it’s after 9pm. It’s okay to shoot his azz any damn way.” Similar to the Trumpers who were going to shoot bleach into their veins to kill Covid, except people actually do shoot people with guns almost every night in Chicago….

 

I acknowledged that in the post right off the bat. Just saying that the underlying logic in the thought makes sense, but actually requesting it is silly.
