You are not accurately depicting the situation. By most accounts, Trask has been equal to or greater than Baker in practice. Even though he’s been with the team 2 years, they give Baker the first start. Ok, well we know after the first few series, starters start getting pulled, so Trask played with slightly less capable personnel in game 1. Baker got hot and played better than he normally does, and Trask was average. I concede that. But, to make the circumstances equal for both players, Trask should have gotten the start in game 2 with full starters like Mayfield, then Baker should have came in after and played several drives as the backup (not just a 2 minute drill) with a slightly reduced lineup. We say that Baker “beat out” Trask because of a very limited sample size? Who knows if he’s have thrown a pick or two yesterday? The problem is he established a small lead and the Bucs are seemingly complicit in letting him not having to protect that lead.

I think there’s a lot of misinformation in your post. Hasn’t rodgers sat out the entire preseason? I don’t think the plan was ever to play mayfield in the second half - maybe second qtr? As for the quote in your second paragraph, mayfield also hasn’t been given the opportunity to play with the first team offense. They have both played with the same players.

Whoa, I am completely depicting it accurately. I have no dog in this fight. I like trask, but I don’t care who starts. Trask did get the start in game 2 with the same starters as Mayfield, but also got the chance to run the two minute drill. Trask actually looked better when the 3rd stringers played last night.

I have no idea what the Bucs will do. None of us have been at practice. Maybe the glazers are calling the shots. Maybe Bowles is. Maybe Canales is. Trask will get his shot this year, let’s hope he is ready

I think I’ll have to retract part of what I said. I’m not sure if they had the exact same starters in Game 1 and Game 2, but neither had the starting receivers, so I will concede the lineups were similar if you compare starting to starting. But… if you do that then you need to admit that Trask outplayed Baker if you just compare start to start. If you pull Kyle’s backup duty from Game 1, the battle is not in Baker’s favor. They needed to make Baker play after Kyle’s score to put pressure on him to perform.

I just read an article about Trey Lance might not even make the 49'ers 53 man roster. 3rd overall pick in same draft with Kyle.

If even Baker is named the starter, we will probably see Kyle at some point during the season.

I don’t think either QB has outplayed the other in preseason. Whether it was by design or not, both QBs started the games with a very short passing attack. Heck, after 15 attempts last night trask was averaging less than 4 ypa. Mayfield was no different in game one. Trask finally let one loose to Palmer for a TD, but that might have been the only downfield throw until Wolford got hurt. (I believe he had one more wher the wr Moore ran an out instead).

I have no idea what really happens at practice. I read that trask has less ints and mayfield has more big plays.

Bucs o-line is a sieve and makes it difficult for a downfield passing game. Kyle has a height advantage and stronger arm than Baker. Baker can scramble & elude a bit better than Kyle, though he did a nice job last night. Obviously pulling for Trask, but think they paid $4M for Mayfield and the front office does not want egg in their face. Going to be a tough year for the Bucs no matter what.

Vick came along at a time when it was frowned upon to spread the field out and run the ball with the QB (cheesin’ in Madden) as a player wouldn't last that long. Today's NFL has changed the rules to protect the QB so we see a lot more of these athletic QBs running the ball. But defenses have also had the time to adjust their scheme and personnel to counter this much more effectively.

4 mil is closer to vet minimum than starting QB pay. It’s probably less than what most backup QBs make

First, any qb playing behind that sorry OL is going to struggle along with an absent running game.
Secondly, this will put a lot of pressure on the D who will be worn out.
I agree, I doubt baker will finish the season as qb and his hc will be fired.

I feel like except for one bad INT pass, Trask handled the O-line and issues well. I don’t believe Rachaad White has played any snaps yet, so it’s tough to say how effective the real run game will be. Begrudgingly, I have to admit that Mayfield also played well behind that line against the Steelers, albeit in a small sample size. All that to say, I think the Bucs O-line is serviceable in the passing game, but the running game remains to be seen.

White would not have changed any outcomes. I’m not sure how wirfs and feiler can change the entire line but hopefully Hainsey-mauch-goedeke grow up fast. Leverett was thought to be a key depth guy but was not great against the jets backups.

Drive for show and putt for dough. If you can’t consistently covert the short pass to set up 2nd and 4, you won’t ever have a ring as a qb in the nfl.

That poster assumed QBs like him can't throw and can only run. Let me guess, they suggested Hurts should've moved to WR? LOL

No matter what happens in week one, Trask playing (and likely starting) is practically a lock before the midway point of the season.
