While I understand 100 years ago unions did some great things, I’m not sure there are so many examples in more recent decades. Inevitably any company that is heavily union inevitably will go broke. There are numerous examples of companies in the verge of financial ruin and the unions are content to just put a dagger in them. I recall going to a GM parts depot decades ago and seeing workers just sleeping on the job. There were big lines on the loading dock where the trucking company I worked for were absolutely not allowed to cross over in protection of GM workers, god forbid anybody else doing anything productive. Recall how in some parts of the NE drivers would have to pull over and bring on union “lumpers” to assist unloading loads. Listening to a documentary on yellow freight - management did a lot of dumb things along the way, but when they finally tried to consolidate operations for efficiency the union wouldn’t have any part of it so they just shut down.

Listening to a podcast today discussing why the US has so much less paid vacation than other countries. It can be traced to the diminishing power of unions. So that means we need more unions, right? Well actually in the 30’s and 40’s when other countries were enacting federal benefits policies like pensions, health care and paid vacations the US unions opposed such policies, because that was their territory. If such benefits were mandatory due to federal policy, who needs unions right?

Now most unions are gone except government unions. Do we think we are all better due to police unions and teachers unions? I understand they serve a purpose but they go much farther than that.

Thanks. I might as well throw in two of my favorite snacks or desserts, in case anyone wants to try something good. One is Santa Cruz oatmeal raisin cookies from Pepperridge Farm. They're soft baked, so much better than hard-baked cookies. The other is Delizza Belgian Cream Mini Eclairs. Nothing really special about the eclairs except that they're filled (as it says on the container) with Bavarian cream (so I don't know why it's called Belgian too). They're the only frozen dessert I've found with Bavarian cream. (Unfortunately the chocolate topping on the eclairs kind of overpowers the taste of the cream.) When I was a kid there was a bakery in town that sold doughnuts filled with Bavarian cream. Mighty good. They sell them now at Dunkin' Donuts, but they're so stingy with the cream that it's mostly dough, so I quit buying them. Bavarian cream is kind of special to me since my forefather came from Wackersdorf, Bavaria.

 

Yep, my son's favorite snack as a kid. Doesn't eat em now tho.

I won't judge him by his song, I'll just say that IMO this man is incredibly stupid.

I guess if he won Mega-a-Millions he would refuse to go collect it. But of course he wouldn't buy a ticket anyway. That would be stupid.

 

Got a Tyler Childers vibe to it. I totally dig it vocally. Its in line with the really solid Alt Country sound that is out there right now.

 

This stuff (Alt country) is huge with college kids. You're just old.

 

It's called intolerance, and some on the left bathe in it while projecting onto anyone who disagrees with them.

 

No, but I wouldnt insult them and call them assholes either.

 

No one calls it 'alt country' anymore except old people remembering that term from the 90s.
