Trask was shaky at first then settled down. Demonstrated competence, went through his progressions and threaded the ball when needed. O-line still needs some help and Trasks' completion rate would be better if receivers wouldn't drop the ball as often. Solid performance by game end. Does not show the 'excitement' of a Mayfield but does the job.

Shaky ? He was 20-28 and that includes five or six dropped passes.

    Kangaroo court QB competition.

Baker plays decent in a few drives and competition shut down after the first preseason game because Kyle had an average performance. Kyle gets his second chance without the starters. Let’s see how Baker does coming off the bench with no starters as well. So frustrating to see Kyle wait patiently in the organization for two years and they bring in a mid grade journeyman veteran who already had a shot with four teams.

Reminds me of how Trask got robbed from the Heisman… most of the season it was Trask as the favorite and then the game between Florida against Alabama was set up to be what decided who won. Like c’mon just give it to Mac Jones then, because Bama was a far better team than UF that year. How is that a fair way to judge them. Ok rant over. Trask starts by week 6.

I look at it like this. Every game Trask doesn't play in is another game not taking punishment and closer to the end of his contract.
Keep practicing and getting better. His chance will come this year or next with a new head coach.
This is yr 3. One more plus the 5th yr option if they pick it up. He makes 1 million a yr.

Very little weather and tear on his body.

Both QBs have played with the same offense. Both QBs have dinked it in the beginning of the game. I have no idea who they will pick, but who told you the competition was shut down?

That’s the trash organization that drafted crab man. No respect for them whatsoever.

But if he has a chance to be an average starting qb, his second contract in a couple years will not be only one mil a year.

Are you just trying to argue? Baker didn’t play at all yesterday, which strongly suggests that he is getting QB1 protection privilege. No offensive starters at the skill positions for Trask. Could the competition still be open? Yes… but that would really be a “re-opening”. The only way Trask wins the job now is if Baker stinks it up really badly in the final game, but they probably give him one series and pull all the starters to stack the odds in his favor.

Kyle looked very good last night, even if Baker is the favorite to start he will be on a short leash and Kyle will eventually get his shot to show what hes got. The NFL is all about showing and proving when the opportunity presents itself, he’ll get that opportunity soon enough.

Okay, I am calling it. Trask should NOT be the starter of the Bucs this year.

As long as Bowles and whatever crap coaching there is on offense and O-line, the QB1 is going to get KILLED in the near future. And it sure doesn't help that plenty of the WR types can't catch pretty good passes. They won't get anything going if they can't convert plays that loosen up the opposing defenses. What a crapfest!

Baker Mayfield played on a terrible team with a bad coach who eventually got fired (Carolina) and then finished the season on a Rams team that had quit and had key players done with injuries. If we’re going to bring up bad o-line play and terrible coaches as an excuse when QBs we like don’t perform well, we have to keep the same energy across the board.

And the NFLs “type” of QB has always ultimately been one who can make throws when needed. That’s why they’ve changed the rules to benefit offenses and made it passer-friendly where you can’t even fart on the QB. That’s why Tom Brady was able to play until he was damn near 50. This is an era where a QB of Trask’s skillset should be able to thrive if he’s really that guy.

Man I’d love to agree with you but Vick was a beast. I don’t think he played a full season in his peak season, so that may be why his overall total passing is lower than expected. Dude could absolutely spin it. As far as effortless power, I put only him above AR for flick of the wrist pretty throwing motion.

But yes, I agree about other stuff you said but I wouldn’t use Vick as an example.

I recall getting a bunch of bacon when I said on Draft day 2021 that it was too bad Trask went to TB.

Now on the 2nd coaching staff, soon to be a 3rd that will discard him because he isn't "their" guy.

Would have been way better going pretty much anywhere else.

Yet he still has had more success in his career and is a proven entity over Trask, which is why the Bucs brought him in. That’s how the NFL works. Like I said, if Trask is really that guy and if Mayfield sucks as bad as people claim, then Trask will have no problem snagging that starting role.

The Bucs will flounder on Offense, poor OL and poor running means lots of 3 and outs. Teams will nullify Baker's rollouts which will mean imo interceptions as he being short will throw into spots.
IMO Trask is better than a lot of qbs who have gotten more chances and I finally bad for him. He works his butt off and from most accounts has played better than baker during practice. I will be rooting against the Bucs until Baker is canned or the HC is. Hopefully, some team will take a chance on Trask.
