I'm gonna take heat for this but oh well. I think a lot of people here are projecting their wishful thinking about fsu this year. They're not a juggernaut but they aren't incompetent like they have been. Momentum is a thing and while I wish they had lost the squeakers last year to lsu florida and Oklahoma, they didn't. That's what happens when you have a scrambling x factor QB sometimes. They spun that into a great portal year and recruiting class. Unless your coach checks out (mullen) momentum as a program is more important than reality of the quality of your team. They won with smoke and mirrors last year and added to their team in the off season while retaining key pieces. They play a crap schedule and if things break their way they could easily have back to back 10 win seasons. Buddy of mine didn't understand why I was so irritated watching the Louisville game last year. I knew fsu had to pick up losses against any team with a pulse because their schedule was set up for a decent year. Louisville blew it. I have FSU/Georgia as my 1A/1B most hated programs so I hope they fall on their asses this year but I don't see it barring injury to Travis in which case they'd be in big trouble. If we have a competent offense and suffer no major injuries we should still be better than them this year but lately we haven't been getting the breaks as a program so I've become a bit of a pessimist until otherwise. Just saying. Give me the bacon....
If you don't have to go to class, it's pretty easy to stay in school... they have consistently been a team with an embarrassingly low national academic record.
Winning a bunch of games because your schedule is garbage doe not impress me. 2 losses to Clem and Georgia means you don’t belong. Getting boatraced by Georgia and being 11-1 still means you don’t belong.
They are decent and there’s hope we could be but they aren’t near ready to compete with the best teams yet is my opinion.
As far as Im concerned they have inherited the UM mantle in the ACC. Start the season with a top 15 team with talent (cough cough) and then the wheels come off and down they go. Realistically Travis bailed them out of 3-4 games with sheer determination and a bunch of crazy luck. LSU hell you fumble two punts inside your own ten and see if you can win that game (oh there were also two other awful turnovers by the corn dogs). That FSU team last year was a hair from a 6-7 loss team by all accounts and everything fell right for them. LSU is chapped after last years showing and their QB is lightyears better than he was game 1 in a new system. If the game weren't in Orlando I bet LSU would run them out. Clemson is in Clemson so not seeing them winning despite Clemson starting to fade from the spotlight. Our team by year end will have played 6-7 better teams than FSU and in our house we handle that shit this year particularly since we should have beat them last year in their own house with a team that just got humped by mighty Vandy. They think its their year...got news for clown town...its not.
TCU is now a joke, and was a joke last year... that conference should not get an automatic bid after what they put out for the Natty game. And Tennessee got blown out by USCe the week after we crushed USCe... Tenn got lucky to beat us in Knoxville last year. One blown coverage play stopped and we win that game. Yet... with a new QB, that lost his last two starting jobs, is their new QB1, and somehow they are preseason ranked in the top ten? We need to set the college football world back on it's axes...
Their sportscasters are thinking if they split the LSU and Clemson games, they have a shot at the playoffs. Has anyone looked at their recruiting for 2024? They’re right up there with us.
Brian Kelly blew the LSU game. They had that defense on the ropes. Go for 2 and the win. We dropped a pass that puts us at 1st and goal inside the 5. I believe we would have gone for two, not sure if we get it but the possibility to lose was there. A few undisciplined pressures by our front seven cost us in that game. Louisville blew it for sure. They had them. Then again FSU blew it against NC St so I would call that a wash. End of the day, they got the breaks last year and have improved their team. My guess is they have 9 wins as a floor this year.
They are, quite frankly, overhyped. It happens often with them and Miami (in the past). The FSU game last season was disgusting to watch. We lost because we couldn’t tackle our way out of a wet paper bag. I had to buy my buddy lunch over that game. Yeah, I’m extremely salty over that game. Don’t get me started on AR’s performance. Great first half and then in the second half couldn’t hit the broadside of the barn. Did I mention that game was disgusting?
I think they'll be good because they have Jordan Travis who is playing quarterback for like the 6th year and has gotten better literally every year he has played. Next year (with no Travis on the roster) they come back to earth big time. Probably to the tune of 6-6.
I think their entire roster is far superior than it was a few short years ago. They don’t belong in the playoffs yet, but even after Travis is gone, with their schedule, they should still win 8 games.
Watching the Georgia game last year my answer will be hell no. They clearly were not one of the top four teams in the country. I would say Bama would be big favorites against them for one team.
I guess in hindsight, we can say they didn’t belong with certainty, but at that time, who was more deserving? It’s easy to say that now, but given the available information during that time, I can’t remember someone else being clearly more deserving.
