Drinking that bullshit koolaid from the orange god who proclaimed repeatedly that his win in 2016 was the biggest landslide ever. Reagan v Mondale in 84 says hello.
Hillary lost the election thanks to the dynamic duo of Putin and Comey but she's not going to die in prison like Trump will.
Who is defending anything? Im saying its the reality. We do t know what a pop vote would be in an open election.
You have certainly defended the system in the past. And I suspect the fact that Republican states have uniformly been unwilling to support getting rid of the Electoral College (even states who are completely ignored in Presidential elections) is that they are afraid that the do know what a pop vote would be in an open election.
You don't think it is unfair that a person could go from being important in picking a President to not mattering at all simply by moving across the Delaware River?
I’m curious what you see as the merits of the electoral college. It just seems completely arbitrary to me.
She did that after producing the subpoenaed emails. She was not required to produce or preserve her entire hard drive or server. Once production under the subpoena was complete, she was under no obligation to preserve her server. And it was not obstruction to wipe the server because there was no extant subpoena. And the government wasn’t looking for her personal emails. This has been explained many times.
That’s wrong. We went third this years ago. Because of the definition of “national defense secrets,” the Supreme Court held long ago that proof of intent is required under the espionage act. It did so to save the statute from a vaguenesses challenge.
Of course you don't think it's unfair. It counts republican votes as more than democratic votes, and has given you the only 3 presidential terms republicans have had since the 1980s (assuming that Bush2 never wins the popular vote against an incumbent Gore). The EC only has two legit purposes: to provide that electors can vote against their state's popular vote when one or both of the following happens: 1) A certifiable madman is elected by a populist wave. 2) The winner of the popular vote is clearly a foreign agent or asset. Trump was both, beyond any rational argument. And not a single, solitary EC elector changed a Trump vote, as their oath compels them to do (while at the same time, several red state electors publicly promised to change their vote if Hillary won their state - despite having no credible reason to do so). Given that it failed massively at the ONLY two reasons it exists, there is no reason for it to exist anymore...except to appoint republican presidents against the will of the people.
A lot of candidates complain that the election results were unfair. However, Hillary Clinton conceded the election as soon as it was called that Trump had passed the 270 electoral vote threshold. She did not then go on to try to destroy our democracy.
That is how it is now. It doesn’t mean it will always be that way. It could go the opposite way. What it does to is put the election entirely in the hands of about a half dozen states that near 50/50. Opinion: Republicans were against the Electoral College before they were for it republicans were against it after 2012 because they didn’t foresee the populist shift of 2016. They didn’t think they could ever win again due to demographics of Latinos and people of color. Also, Kerry came close to winning the electoral college in 2004 even though he lost the popular vote.
For it to go the opposite way, the GOP would have to start pursuing policies that don't appeal to only racists and fascists, which would be a good thing for America.
You dont think it's unfair that just a few states with a complete different ideological perspective than many others render those states opinions as not mattering?
I'm not a republican and I hate Trump. Keep up. The only reason you guys suddenly care is because you want a liberal government for the rest of eternity handed to you by the people of just a few high population states.
I think geography and SOME ideological, cultural things matter geographically. A lot of people in NYC mock the south. They think we are backwards and stupid. When voting they have zero concern about the ideological beliefs or customs of a midwesterner or southerner.. The EC still gives those folks say in their leader. I think our country has maintained these amazingly rich customs and traditions and the EC helps with that. Changing the way we elect the potus would be the handing over of 1/3 of our government to one side for the rest of history. Ebbs, flows, checks, balances. I think the EC has kept that in place and will always do so.
