I can think of a few players that would have been the difference the following year had we been able to pay them to stay in school the way Georgia and fsu has done...
Good news, friend. A very angry LSU will disabuse them of the notion that they are a top-10 team on September 3.
Up to 5 1st round draft picks is a stretch, I’ll give them MAYBE one in Verse if a GM feels like making a mistake. They have improved their talent through the portal though and should be seen as a preseason top 15 team. They have a good team no doubt.
I said first day thinking it was 1st and 2nd out but now I'm remembering they split it up. I just meant expected to compete for starting positions, as opposed to later rounds where starting is more likely a longshot. I agree there probably aren't any top 15 picks on that roster except for Verse (depending on how he plays this season). Coleman also may go very high because NFL GMs love those fast 6'4'' 210+ receivers but he currently isn't considered a top 10 receiver.
Their defense was a glaring weakness last year and it doesn't look like Norv put any emphasis on it this year.
I think Noles hype up Verse. He is undersized for the league, if he was a legit top 10 he would left for this past draft. I have seen him invisible in games. Coleman is legit. Really wish we went after him in the portal. They have two WR1’s on that team now. Him and Johnny going to be an issue this year. And yea I agree their roster is improved. I still think their OL stinks but the system masks it well. Defensively they aren’t impressive and can be had
Norvell has been great in the portal. Gotta give him his due. He has Jonny Wilson ( portal) and goes and gets another good one in Coleman ( portal). He’s handled business in the portal.
I think their entire DL is portal, along with best LB and DB. Plus their QB, best WRs and their starting RB. My goodness if the portal didn’t exist that would be a 2 win team and disappearing into the ether
There are only a handful of teams that you likely feel are "that good." It's the contenders and then a bunch of decent teams. I imagine that FSU will be included among the decent teams, esp. given their craptastic schedule.
I don't mean to bang on reality, but do you feel that FSU has a chance to beat Clemson? If they do, might they have a chance at the playoffs?
I’m not sure Clemson will belong this year. If fsu can beat lsu, they have a shot. I believe lsu will get trashed by Bama this year though. Fsu would probably be a four loss team in tge sec so kinda average. They could get in and get embarrassed though. They almost lost to us at home last year and we were garbage. They aren’t a top ten team.
I agree with most of this, but the truth is that FSU's season comes down to about three games: LSU, Clemson, FL. Unless Pitt or Wake Forest pull a fast one, FSU is in great position to win a bunch of games. I'm not here to sing their praises and certainly don't wish for them to be top ten, just trying to be honest.
So, after two pages I think we can mostly agree that FSU is an improved team, but their top 10 pre-season ranking is mostly due to playing in a crap conference where they can lose to both LSU and Clemson, possibly the only ranked teams they play all season, yet still be able to finish in the top 10. Sounds a lot like last years resume.
Which only goes to prove my point. They aren’t a top 10 team, they are a team with a weak schedule that is expected to have a good win/loss record. This is how teams like UCF think they win titles. That place in Tally is a corrupt cesspool and should never be relevant again. You wouldn’t believe the hush money that gets thrown around that program.
