When questioned, the HC said "he will be ready by January."

No injury is good but if this is as reported it’s not bad.

Rudner from other site reported or said in boot on crutches and made it sound like maybe he’s ready for opener but not practicing for next week seems likely.
Our injury situation is a little concerning.

Outside of Utah and their QB situation, does everyone else feel like it is always us getting injuries to major players on our team and we never seem to hear about other teams losing starters to injuries.

I know they do, but when is the last time we heard Georgia, LSU, or Alabama lost a starting player BEFORE we played them? Remember all those years in a row we played LSU after losing our starting QB, or some other major piece of the team) a week or two before?

I am quite sure the injury situation is similar on every team/program. The main difference (besides us being much more attuned to UF's situations) between the UFs/Utahs and the UGas/Bamas is depth. It is usually much easier to overcome an injury or two or three when you have similar talent in the wings. We and the Utah-types have a decent/good first team whereas the seconds/thirds are quite a drop off in talent/skill.

We thought that we finally got over the depth issue at O-line with the transfers and now we are down two for sure and two are working their way back. Suddenly, we are potentially back to square one. I get that we value DBs, receivers and whatnot, but I get a much more warm and fuzzy feeling when we get a real commitment from a big ugly. Can't have enough of those.

Yep. I've seen the Gators tank in the late season in years we didn't have much depth. We would like like a different team than the one we saw in the first month. Programs like Saban's Alabama would be 3 deep with NFL talent at every position. It'll take us a couple more years to get close to that kind of depth. Until then, just hope we don't have many injuries.

Definitely a depth thing for us but even deep teams would and have suffered on the rare occasion they lost multiple depth pieces from a single position group like we have in multiple years. No one survives losing 2 to 3 Qbs like we did under muschamp and and Mac not to mention the bizzaro events with Cam,Kitna and Grier also affecting depth. Losing multiple critical secondary pieces in a single year like we did under Mullen. Losing our top 2 defensive playmakers in greenard and zuniga in another. Having almost no experienced receivers left against fsu last year.

Luck is just randomness and although we had it in spades during the 2006 title run, we have had horrid injury and attrition luck since. It's been magnified by our shallow depth for sure but again, even Bama lost a critical game once a key cog went down in recent years let alone multiple ones.

Who was our second-string center last year and who is this year?

Usually, you have a starter who can move over, but I don’t think we have one this time.
