I think previously they would call obstruction if the receiving player was in the basepath even when going after an errant throw.

And the biggest change....umps can now completely ignore obstruction when in their opinion the runner was clearly out anyway.

It's the new face of all college sports. The days of win one for the Gipper are over. My interest is dropping fast.

Now it’s win one for the Tipper. Just ask Alana Vawter.

I would have bet a lot of money that Amanda & Kelly would have won a WCWS Championship. They got there three times but never brought home a championship. Just goes to show you that you need more than two or three really good players to win it all.

Jmho, but Kelly had two years with Gourley to learn the change up but never did. Imo that could’ve done wonders for the team and herself. Jmho

Rumor at that time was her Dad did not want her to learn it.
He was more for awards for Kelly, than for the team.

While I am certainly not disputing your information, that's just nuts.

Since it is dead time....another reason I love watching AU.....yes, I have repeatedly regaled you on Josie Muffley (who by the way had another really great day today)...it is learning about new players. Kelsey Harshman played at Wisconsin a considerable time ago. Needless to say, I was not at the top of her fan list at that time. I am now. Not only is she a very competent ballplayer but.....every interview with her has me in stitches. She is smart and very funny. Just a complete and loveable personality. Without AU, I would have never known.

I sat with Barnhill's Dad at a game after she graduated and had an extended conversation with him about many things.

I only posted about it once -- and I immediately regretted it because I'm sure he was not thinking the conversation was for attribution. The post is here:
    OGT-Florida vs Missouri 3/19/2023 1:00 pm SEC+

From the conversation I had, he seemed down on Rocha -- especially her not teaching Kelly a change-up. As for the team vs. Kelly, that didn't come up.

I believe you BUT Gourley could’ve taught her, Kelly could’ve practiced it on her own time and possibly made a case to Rocha but it’s all moot. Really a shame imo

Being down on Rocha would be like being down on Mickey Mantle because he went 1 for 3. What she accomplished at Florida and then at OK speaks for itself. I call BS.

Hey, I have no dog in this one! :) Just repeating what I was told by Barnhill's Dad. Those are his opinions, NOT mine. Mostly, I was just responding to the rumor that Dad did not want her to learn to throw a curve while at UF.

I has always heard that Kelly had trouble getting out of her own head (by her own admission), and they were worried that teaching her another pitch might mess her up.
Kind of a moot point now though.

We should have taught her how to throw to first on a bunt (I am sure Tim tried). She beat herself in at least 3 games including one in the WCWS. Once word got out to wait on only the rise ball or bunt her (thank you Patrick M), her head went South

I've always wondered why the few that simply can't throw overhand don't just whip the ball underhand to first. I know some pitchers say it just isn't the same thing but it is their natural method and continuing to use what clearly isn't working doesn't make sense. Kelly couldn't throw a beach ball into the ocean overhand.
