Russia's basic problem is that their government is stuck in an Imperialistic mindset, when the rest of the civilized world has moved beyond that the last 80 years, and is not willing to tolerate an imperialist nation, certainly not on the edges of Europe. Europe has endured two world wars with a country trying to take over all of Europe, and they learned their lesson the hard way that this is not the kind of world they want to live in. They lived for half a century under the shadow of the Soviet Union and their nuclear weapons. They don't want Russia to expand into these countries again, after these countries have earned their freedom from the Russian barbarians. Russia had no right to keep those countries after WWII, but Stalin felt entitled to keeping them, because no one was willing and able to stand up to his massive army after WWII. Might makes right. That's like saying that a policeman who removes a criminal from your home has a right to remain in your home and order you around.

I think I-boy is right--Russia fears not a military threat from Ukraine; they (Putin and the ruling party) fear a social threat from Ukraine's success and freedoms. And that's not a valid reason to start a war with another country. If Putin feels threatened because of Ukraine's successes, than he should work harder to make Russia successful, not do anything to make Ukraine less successful.

If you think your neighbor might be a security threat, is it o.k. for you to invade your neighbor's house with weapons drawn and take care of the security threat? Maybe stay a while until you are certain that there is no more security threat? Set up someone to be in charge of the neighbor's house and make their decisions for them? Or . . . . is there an organization that you might appeal to in order to try to resolve the situation without invading?

This is Basic Morality 101. It shouldn't be that complicated.

I would like to nominate this guy to negotiate with Putin:

How a Marine vet killed his stepfather with an atomic wedgie

Just when you think you've heard it all.

The Brits think Putin may be in deep trouble due to the on-going collapse of the Russian currency.

The rouble’s collapse could finally bring down Putin

I see. When your weak arguments are completely defeated, you resort to pretending that your opponent is arguing at a lower level. How pathetic.

    Seen on the internet …

Did any of us imagine when we were children that someday in the future there would be a NATO neo-Nazi army in Europe attacking Russia. And that its spokesman would be an American man pretending to be a woman?

A trans spokesperson is one of the few appropriate measures they've taken.

I guess she forgot that the U.S. bought Alaska from the Russians, and that there are new Russians... and some of the older decedents still living there.

Besides that people from both countries are fleeing to the U.S. and other parts of Europe.

Ukraine claims that Russia has mastered time travel, noting that Russia has been attacking Ukraine with missiles manufactured in April of 2024. This could be serious.

Russia attacking Ukraine using freshly-made missiles — President’s Office

    Surely, you can't be serious?

As soon as he loses the next election he'll die of an "accident." He is a liability to their plans...

Poland has a military parade with several times as many tanks as Russia had in their military parade this year. Poland's parade was described as "massive", while Putin was described as "puny".

Poland displays military might in huge parade as elections loom

There was plenty of hardware on display, including F-16's and Blackhawk helicopters.

Who is that? Biden or Zelenskyy? FWIW, I think Zelenskyy is terrible for Ukraine. The way he barks at NATO leaders if they don't pony up millions or billions of dollars worth of lethal aid, even though the president or ambassador on the receiving end of his fury fully supports Ukraine's sovereignty. Lobbying aggressively for military aid? I get that. But dressing down world leaders if they don't comply is unstatesmanlike. Especially when there are press in the room.

Ironically, Zelensky was elected on his campaign promise to make peace with Russia.
