I have something comforting to share with you. When things like these become accepted by a society, we're already entering totalitarianism. Now, here's the comforting part. There's no turning back. Within a generation, we will be a completely totalitarian, authoritarian state. You may believe in American exceptionalism and the Constitution. I do, as well, but to date, no world government has been able to reverse it once they have turned down this path. It's just a matter of time. I hate to sound pessimistic, but history is rarely wrong, if ever.

A hallmark of totalitarianism is extreme individuality where everyone gets to decide what they want to be and self-actualize, like in 1984 or something

The totalitarian state begins when people begin lying to each other as a legitimate form of communication, without giving a second thought to it.

I think you are adopting a very unique definition of totalitarianism here. The term is traditionally, and I think rightly, used to describe when a centralized government takes control over most aspects of citizens’ lives.

When libertarian economist Mike Munger is asked if he would legalize drugs, he answers, “I have good news for you. If I’m elected, taking drugs would not be mandatory.” That’s it in a nutshell - liberty is leaving choice up to private citizens. Having the government determine how private leagues operate would be the opposite, closer to your T-word.

I don't think you're following. A full blown totalitarian state doesn't usually start out that way. It typically amasses over a period of years or longer. The first markers of the totalitarian state are when the people begin accepting lies as truth and questioning the lie is met with scorn. We're not talking about mere political differences of opinion here. We're talking about embracing falsehood as legitimacy.

A totalitarian state doesn't emerge without a complicit populace.

So like if people believe America is the greatest country on Earth, when we clearly arent, then we have become totalitarian?
