I haven't asked for anyone to be banned or for politicians to be shielded from mockery. But it's interesting to me that the people who argue we should be holding up and celebrating traditional families seem the most inclined to promote - or defend those promoting - conspiracy theories about the Obamas and the Pelosis to call their families into question. Maybe it's just partisanship, but there could be some other things going on there, too. Not to mention how Trump seemed to mainstream mocking the looks of politicians' spouses like he did with Ted Cruz' wife.

They coexist because they don't dare say this chit to people's faces. Do you think people would actually say some of this if it weren't for the internet? Only to people they KNEW were like minded. Both sides are the same when it comes to keyboard utterances. I would only go at my brother like this in person. Most normal people don't go around speaking about most of what we do here to people they don't know are like minded.

I think the Michelle stuff on this thread is a joke.

The Barack homosexual stuff, I mean... it seems like there's some evidence that he's attracted to men by his own words. I'm not God, I'm not here to judge him. But you don't think this would be a huge story if Trump wrote this?

You may consider it a joke, but I know someone who believes it to be truth, insists it's true, among the many other ignorant ultra right right wing generated convictions she has.

If every joke were defined by the kooks who take them literally (or seriously), we would live in a humorless world.

Okay, I thought people were taking the Michelle stuff seriously. As with the birther stuff, it's hard to tell who's trolling and who believes it.

Not sure what to make of the article about Barack. Reportedly, the letter is from 40 years ago, has been redacted, and is being held by Emory University, which doesn’t permit it to be photographed or removed. The NY Post article says an author had his friend transcribe it or part of it. If someone has the original, it seems like a handwriting analysis could be conducted. Would be counter-intuitive to me given that Obama had political aspirations that he would have written letters about about being gay or bisexual even if he had been because that could have been a career killer, especially back then. Also surprising to me if this was able to be kept secret all these years until now.

When you lack common sense, you lean on education to help you feel elite.

This is so true, and weirdly coincidental. I actually had this conversation with an insurance company today that I am trying to get to pay my client proper disability benifits. The Insurance Company is so focused on irrelevant minutiae, they lack(ed) the common sense to see the black hole in their position. I actual told them to put down your claims manual, take a day, and use some common sense in evaluation.

We will see if they become enlightned. I love being semi retired to I can just pursue the few cases I feel are important.

I don't think an insurance company trying to get out of paying benefits indicates a lack of common sense. It indicates that they are an insurance company.

It does when they can’t comprehend that a term in an insurance policy will be interpreted in a consistent manner. The law loves common sense.
