On the contrary, the guy that named the team, George Preston Marshall was a big racist who refused to integrate the team lol

Magic Johnson, a minority owner was the one that hinted at another name change on the day of the ownership change. Thats where much of the momentum is from.

He said a "full rebrand" is a possibility.

The Miami Indian tribe, who currently reside in Oklahoma, were originally from Southwestern Ohio and Indiana. The sports teams of Miami University in Ohio, which was founded when the Spanish still owned Florida, had for ages been known as the Redskins. In the late 1990s the Miami tribe requested that the university change the name of their sports teams, which they obliged by changing to the Redhawks.

To me Braves, Warriors, and Chiefs are fairly innocuous names. Redskins, on the other hand, I can see why that’s offensive. I’m fine with getting rid of that.

Wright State University near me, who I believe the Gators played once in basketball, are known as the Raiders. Originally, their symbol was a little cartoon Viking. Some people got offended by that and so they switched to a wolf. I don’t know that the Vikings themselves were offended, but someone was. PETA hasn’t said anything about the wolf.

Exactly. In fact, the Redskins were the last NFL team to be integrated.

So... would you say that these name changes we not sponsored and pushed specifically by these native American tribes? So... it's an outside source?

Here I thought that all these name changes were happening becasue of these native Americans were pushing for these name changes.

Indians are forgotten as is. The continued scrubbing of anything having a connection to them perceived to be derogatory or not will continue the slide to irrelevancy.

Give it time, once people stop having real problems that need solving these are the kinds of issues that they occupy their time with.
