Meaning you want them to pay it back after the fact? Good luck with that.

Not really, just playing devils advocate. There are too many people that think these players should be allowed to do whatever they want as long it's for them and their future irrespective of the team and football program that got them to where they are as seniors/NFL ready.

I'm thinking they could have some fantastic spring time flower shows at that venue!

The pompous rose bowl committee has for too long enjoyed the smell of their own brand. Happy to see them crying.
The Peach Bowl has had more compelling games over the last couple decades than the rose.

Their best hope is to be part of the playoff rotation, otherwise they slide off into even more obscurity matching up also rans.

Except this re-alignment doesn't affect the Rose Bowl, or any of the other NY6 bowls. They're already tied into the expanded playoff moving forward and relinquish any lingering conference affiliations.

The Rose Bowl hosts a playoff semi-final game this year. After that its a 3-year cycle where the next two years they'll host playoff quarterfinals, and then a semi-final the third year. The other major bowls (Orange, Peach, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar) follow the same 3-year rotation of hosting 2 quarters and 1 semi. So they're all in the same boat now. Some posters claiming/hoping the Rose Bowl would become irrelevant. I'm sorry, but this is the opposite of that.

I don’t have the latest 12-team playoff rotations moving forward, but I thought I recalled the Rose Bowl did have conference tie ins when they weren't hosting a playoff game. Meaning they’d have to take a B1G and PAC-12 teams if the teams were conference champions, but not in the CFP.

That applied to the 4-team playoff today. It ends with the 12-team playoff expansion next year: College Football Playoff Expands to 12 Teams Beginning in 2024 - College Football Playoff

"For the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the four quarterfinal games and two Playoff Semifinal games will be played in bowls on a rotating basis. The 2024 quarterfinals will take place in the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl will host the Playoff Semifinals. The 2025 quarterfinals will take place in the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl will host the Playoff Semifinals. Specific dates for all quarterfinal and semifinal games will be announced at a later time."

Wouldn't be shocked if conferencee championship games go away unless they are part of a larger playoff. Relic of the past when there were no championship games.

So many great posts to discuss. I didn't want to quote 4-5-6. LOL! :)

The Rose Bowl's agreement to join in made the 12 team playoff possible, as @Brodeur mentioned. As I understand, it's the highest ranked 6 conference champions and then the next highest ranked 6 teams, where they re-rank them for the play-off. If I'm wrong please correct me. Finish Top 10 and you're probably in . . . whether you made it to the SECCG or not.

Here's how SI would have placed us in 2021:

That's not accurate since it didn't include the 6 highest ranked conference champions . . . but we would have been in.

In March Madness a Cinderella can upset a high seed because somebody can get red hot and the other ice cold in a single game and one player can make a lot more difference in BB. I think it will be hard for the AAC champion, for example, maybe #17, not even considered in the SI bracket, to upset a #1 or #2 ranked SEC team because of the depth each team has. Middle-of-the-pack may give upsets (like in Round 1). We'll see . . .

@ETGator The one issue I see with the SI bracket above is that in the 12-team playoff, the 4 highest ranked conference champions get the byes. So ND would not have been eligible for a top 4 seed and the bye that comes with it. Note this was 2020 when ND actually played that season as an ACC member but lost to Clemson in the ACCCG; as an independent they aren't eligible to receive a top-4 seed. But if you finish as a top 10 team like UF did that regular season, it'll be hard to get left out as an at-large.

Especially when there are no divisions. It so dumb to play a "championship" game between the 1st and 2nd place team in a league. Its all about the Benjamin's

Kinda like the Citrus Bowl all show no go! Simple, Orange , Sugar and Peach are the destinations.

Don't omit the Cotton Bowl out because there are a lot of Oklahoma and Texas College football fans out there. Look for some kind of annual rotating schedule that will save the traditional big bowls like Rose, Cotton, Peach, Sugar, and Orange.

Maybe all about the bye week seeds. Top four teams get a bye.
