Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'

Well capitalism didn’t even exist in the New Testament times. The amount of greed on display in the United States today was unheard of then. So safe to say a LOT of Americans would qualify as “rich” according to biblical standards. The evangelical have literally hitched their wagon to a real life Gordon Gecko. I’m not a biblical scholar but they’ve clearly strayed far from the path of Christ.

 

Jesus wasn’t the son of god because there isn’t one. There is no heaven or hell. The Jeffersonian Bible is the only one worth reading in order to understand the message Jesus preached. It forms the basis of how we believe we should treat one another. Most of the time we do a good job of that. So do the adherents of other religions. Trump is most assuredly not one who does. He represents everything Jesus condemned, as do those who support him.

What issues do you have with Russell Moore?

 

I have no idea who Mr Moore really is except that he is cited by NPR and RawStory as saying multiple pastors told him something. My distrust is for NPR and Raw Story add that to the statement that Mr Moore told them multiple pastors said something not naming any of them then looking at who started the thread, I just don't see any reason to go any further.

 

Define rich according to biblical standards taking into account the advancements up until this century.

 

Thanks for your sincere response. I don't know why most Christians would find that horrifying. Like you, I consider myself a bad Christian. With that understanding, I certainly don't find your explanation horrifying. I haven't had the experience you describe at the end of your post. Obviously, such behaviors exist, just not as prevalent from my experience.

 

Do you have any evidence of this? Can you prove your statements?

 

I suspect some people would only be happy if they went to a church where the Gospels proclaimed that Jesus handed out pistols and machine guns instead of fishes and loaves of bread. They would decide that a "fish" was code for a Glock handgun, and a "loaf of bread" was code for an AR-15... A lot of people weren't paying attention in school, and had to learn about life from Dirty Harry and Terminator movies. Everyone else was just watching those movies for entertainment.

 

I have given my conclusion and am perfectly comfortable with it. If you think there is evidence for a different conclusion, and that conclusion comforts you, I'm happy for you. I sense you are a kind person, and that's all that matters.

 

Classic!! The man has even been suggesting recently that he is like a messiah, being indicted for them.

 

Always having food. Owning land. Having no debt. Having any sort of investments.

Nobody on this board is even close to poor by biblical standards.
