Pre-season rankings by the same USA Today that botched the ranking of SEC coaches . . .

Think the ranking is inaccurate. Mertz is a 3 year starter at a P5 program/Wisconsin. Has seen a lot of defenses and game situations. Can’t rank inexperienced QBs ahead of him. Wisconsin offense was more limiting. He will do well here

 

Its objective. We have to be hopeful or else we are throwing in the towel.

But there is not a single SEC team that would prefer Mertz. Someone young and inexperienced has unknown upside. Most would take that over a decently known commodity.

But we have no choice but to be hopeful

 

Where is the Milton love coming from? Yes he had a great game against Clemson, but he hasn’t really proven anything. Maybe it’s the system?

Spencer Rattler to me talent wise ( arm and mobility) he’s a top QB. If he plays the whole season like he did against Tenn and Clemson then he can be a top QB in the league. The problem is mentally and not reading the defense.

not really knocking the list. It’s pretty accurate. Obviously, the ranking of Mertz is what he did at Wisconsin. He’s got to prove himself and he can only go up on that list.

 

I think some of it is the system they run, he's also just a physical specimen. I don't see him being as good as Hooker, but then again guys who stick around this long sometimes figure it out for one season.

 

Fred Mertz does not love this ranking.

SEC football quarterback rankings: Can anyone challenge Bryce Young?

AR was ranked 8th....we barely made it to a bowl. He never came close to his potential as a starter!

 

I realize that what I'm seeing with Mertz is limited, but I like the way he delivers the ball. He seems to have some zip and touch. He doesn't have the arm strength of AR but he seems to throw a much more catchable ball. It will come down to protection. Very few QBs look good when they are running for their lives. If he does get decent protection and the receivers can get some separation, I think he is going to have a good year.
