While I certainly can understand why he chooses not to live in Alabama, his job kinda sorta requires that. It seems Tommy actually lives in $3 million, 4K square foot beach house in Santa Rosa Beach (the Panhandle) and "fudges" some documents. He claims to live in a $300,000 house in Alabama owned by his son and wife. Florida has the distinction of having the 3 worst Senators in the US Senate, a record we should probably hold forever.
Rubio is not half bad, but Scott and now Tubby are at the bottom of the barrel. (If Scott weren't from Florida, from what I've heard - per a Republican friend whose daughter is a Senate intern - few would pay him any attention.)
Agree or disagree, in my lifetime Bob Graham was the standard. So, I sort of disagree that Rubio is not “half bad” because he has been a bit of an empty suite compared to what Graham and Hawkins / Chiles had done for Florida. OT: I will root for Anthony on the field. Hope he gets a play or two as a preferred walk-on. Maybe Marco will push back on DeSantis’ impact on UF. Optimistic.
Bob Graham, Ruben Askew and Lawton Childs, all democrats, all good guys whose policies I largely supported.... and none of whom enacted the type comprehensive planning needed to stop developers from ruining my state. Of course, neither did their predecessors. Probably 75% of the county commissioners in Florida were 'owned' by developers.
interesting. Is there a good resource you recommend on the political / land commissioner failures on Florida land development? Environmental : keeping Florida, Florida is a Teddy Roosevelt type conservative. It’s woefully missing from today’s political discourse.
Haha, sounds like a bit of a housing shuffle going on there! But seriously, that's a wild twist. Florida's senator lineup seems quite the story. Wonder how that all shakes out in the end.
Key is where he claims a homestead. if it’s the Florida house he’s primarily a Florida resident. That should be enough to disqualify him as a Bama senator. My 2 cents
Not off hand. I grew up in Gainesville and have lived in central Florida for nearly 45 years. I’ve known commissioners and people who have known commissioners, and though a lot of this is rumor/hearsay, it’s been common “knowledge” that most were on the take. The haphazard development across the state, the way mansions are built on the water side of the road, rather than on the other side, etc., certainly reflect commissioners on the take in my mind.
I was told (dog-cussed really) by a Collier County landowner that panthers on his property cost him an extra $12K payment to a commissioner to get that vote to approve construction of his jiffy-mart.
You might be interested in Clay Henderson's book. He has been a warrior for land conservation for a long while in FL and is a good dude. I haven't read the book but knowing of Clay a little, I would imagine he writes of all the successes of conservation of wild places in FL rather than the doings of corrupt greed-heads. Amazon.com
