If it’s an ACL or something similar we still might not know, they let the swelling go down a bit before the mri.
With an ACL they are able to tell if the AcL is gone immediately. They just use the MRI for confirmation.
Sure for a complete tear, but a partial tear wouldn't make the knee unstable just cause a lot of pain and swelling but could still be a fairly serious injury.
They would be able to tell immediately by testing the lower leg stability. With a partial when testing the stability pain will tell them some information. Partial strain . The MRI will confirm.

I feel bad for the kid. Coach Napier spoke about Boone's leadership, which will be the hardest thing to replace, but is planning to keep him close to the unit apparently so it won't be totally lost. Adding my voice to those praying for a quick recovery and successful rehab.
