Simply, they will use CGI to put teams on the field and fans in the stands. Then ESPN will use it to put Keith Jackson in the booth. What's not to like?
The bloom is off the rose. And I don't cotton to the bowl in Dallas. The orange still has juice in Miami, and give some sugar in New Orleans.
BTW, not just the Rose Bowl, but this conference re-alignment affects all bowl games and their respective conference tie-ins. Contracts will need to be re-negotiated across the board from TV rights to conference affiliations.
It was when the BCS and playoffs started taking the top teams that the Rose Bowl started to suck. They used to get the top two teams from the Big Ten and the Pac 12 getting the two losers that just lost their conference championship is not a great bowl.
I’d gladly see this whole thing revert back to pre-BCS and see if they can try again to come up with a better system
They never really were a must see game for me becasue it was almost exclusively Big-10 versus Pac-12... I still have no real interest in watching teams from those two conferences play each other with all the other SEC participating bowls going on.
I watch whoever is playing for the championship. On occasion, it was tgat game but tgat ended long ago much like the Sugar getting either the team tgat just got their asses handed to them in the sec championship or the third place sec team. Pretty anticlimactic and why players sit ny6 games. 16 team playoff is where it should be and not big on one side and sec on the other. Seed them like they do basketball and you may end up with semi with only sec teams. The four best should decide semis on the field, not two sec and two bigs.
As I said, I would rather watch the other bowl games. But it is too bad that the Rose Bowl never had SEC teams (maybe a few times) playing in it. Big-10 and Pac-12 more often than not to me is too boring to watch.
Has been that way for a long time but they use the get two top ranked teams. I’ll watch osu and uscw just as quick as I’ll watch Bama or Georgia if they are the top ranked team in the nation.
Yeah, their choice of teams may have had something to do with my give-a-crap-o-meter level of interest... But when they had USC and top ranked OSU it was a decent game.
Oklahoma and Boise State put on maybe the most entertaining bowl game ever. Some of those games were diamonds in the rough. But that all went out the window when players started opting to sit out their bowl game. So much has been lost. Forever
Not gonna happen. They are going to a 12-team playoffs and if anything creating more money making opportunities in new games.
That’s why I hope they opt for a 16 team playoff, then players will play and games will mean something
Team should pull scholarships away from players opting out of their obligations to the football team/program. That's for players that are leaving for the NFL and are opting out... A.K.A. quitting on their team. IOW, if you skip a game even a bowl game you forfeit your last year of free college and that last FREE year of scholarship. Why not, that should be part of the deal.
Underclassman that plan to return to Gainesville are not the ones I was referring to. They have to play and they know it.
