Why is the GOP rallying around Trump?

Well if one out of every 360 planes flights was unplanned and unwanted, maybe.

 

There is no reason to change your belief. I can respect different beliefs. The question is why is it important for your belief to be imposed on everyone, including those who don’t share your belief, as law of the land, when it is pretty clear that a large majority does not share your belief?

So, you were OK with the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC on 9/11???

There are a lot of fake American patriots who claim to love this country and wave the American flag as if they care, but don't have a clue what it means to be an American. After all, it is the United States of America.

 

I remember a picture from a civics book in middle school that was close to 50 years old. In it was a picture of a campaign poster for the guy who wrote the jungle(Upton Sinclair or Sinclair Lewis). He was running for governor of California for a socialist or communist party. The postscript said what makes America great is our differences.

 

That quote is just sad. In fact it’s despicable. I just got back from a trip to CA. Loved it. It is really sad that people have gone into the media holes such that they create these ridiculous caricatures. It’s an American state, with Americans and American values, where the population leans more liberal 55/45 vs 45/55 in a place like texas. They have a little higher taxes, maybe a few more state govt programs. It isn’t like it is communist China.

The tiny tax cuts for the middle class were temporary and are being phased out. The massive tax cuts for himself and the super-rich were permanent and remain in place.

 

Upton Sinclair, he actually ran as a Democrat for governor (though he considered himself a socialist).

 

I have always gotten those two confused. One was a muckraking journalist famous for writing the Jungle about meat packing in Chicago. The other wrote more highbrow fiction being the first American to win the Nobel prize for literature.

 

There should be a game called 'Upton Sinclair or Sinclair Lewis?' Or maybe a Jeopardy category.

This is sad. There is no other way to put it, this is just being a bad American.

 

They are rallying behind Trump because Trump is their leader. He represents what they do.

 

His anti-democratic voice is your voice too. You devalue the right to vote. And Trump doesn’t give a rats rear end about what you or anyone else believes in. He turns on anyone who doesn’t demonstrate absolute fealty to him.

 

I could ask you the same, probably about many things.

Thats what a vote is. Its me using the one tool I have to elect people that share something I believe in.

Are you suggesting that people should vote based on popular opinion even if it contradicts their own beliefs? If so, why have elections. We should all just vote the same way.

 

This country is based upon separation of church and state, as an example. Do you think that is wrong and church beliefs should become law?

You really don’t understand why sometimes we might not want to make our beliefs law and force them on everyone?

I’m guessing you believe infidelity is wrong. Do you think it should be made illegal? Same with pre marital sex.

Religious or not, we all vote our beliefs.

To limit the cutoff of when that is acceptable at religion is bias.

You vote your conscience. I vote mine. Where we derive it from is of no value.

Your vote is a right. You get one.
Im not vacating my right because you may disagree.

If I am in the minority (as you point out) then my vote won't matter. If I am in the majority than my vote will matter.

But abortion is different than say gay marriage. I disagree with gay marriage as a religious construct ordained by God, but believe in the claim that it is protected by the constitution. Abortion i believe violates the rights of an unborn human. I believe that it is not me just pushing my belief on someone. I believe that is protecting human life. ..Totally different than gay marriage for example.

Bit what are you even worried about. If its the losing strategy that many claim and the changing popular opinion isnt in my favor, than my vote will do no "harm".

 

Great post as usual, but a Trumper is immune to it. I never thought I'd live to see the day when people make excuses for such a thoroughly rotten human being. He has zero redeeming qualities as far as I can tell. To think people want to elect him again just floors me. Do we Americans, especially those of us who fought for it, really want an authoritarian president? Are we really on the brink of discarding our 230 year history as a beacon for the world? It appears some are.

 

With all due respect, if that is what you want as opposed to fear, I don't understand how you can be so intelligent and have such a viewpoint. Emotions often prevail for most of us over reason.
