I'd bet it was a fat finger on a cellphone. I've had to try 2-3-4 times to get it right which is why I don't rate while at my grandchildren's games. Most just rate and don't look. I wouldn't worry about it.
I don’t think that scenario works. I just can’t believe they would use a second round pick on him and then not play him.
Tebow was a whole different case. People were dug in and invested on being right that he was a bust. The fact that he had success just made them even more upset.
He was one of the most successful college athletes ever and the hot topic discussion was whether his style would translate to the next level. A lot of haters/doubters thought he would fail, without a doubt. My only question is the whole “the NFL hated him and wanted to see him fail” angle, they had zero incentive to do so. I think he just got stuck in the unfortunate, unfair position that players often find themselves in: get drafted by a coach that has a specific vision of how he wants to use you, then that coach abruptly gets fired and the incoming coach has no loyalty to you because he wants to bring in his own guys. Tale old as time.
I think the problem is you are thinking of the “whole NFL” as one unit when you should look at it as a collection of individuals.
Partially true. Rex Ryan however brought him to the Jets solely to bring any kind of media spotlight to himself. Nobody with a brain can convince me that Mark “Butt Fumble” Sanchez was a better QB, and I say that without wearing my Orange and Blue glasses. edit* or Greg McElroy!!!
https://www.si.com/nfl/buccaneers/n...arterback-for-preseason-game-against-steelers Mayfield to start 1st preseason game against the Steelers. Trask will start the Second against the Jets.
I’ve always thought going second in a head to head competition is advantageous, because you know what score you have to beat.
I suspect the Jets will play their first teamers on D a lot longer than the Steelers will. I would say the Jets D is far better than the Steelers. All this means is that Baker should look better in game one than Trask in game two with stiffer competition. Having said that, I think Trask will do just fine.
I grew up in Gainesville, attended UF 05-08, and now live in Colorado. I have a lot of friends who are huge Broncos fans. It's kind of embarrassing Florida fans are still beating this drum. He didn't know what was going on out there. He couldn't read defense at a basic level. The team had to dumb the playbook down into the ground for him to be functional. He had a <50% completion percentage in 2011 and still remained the starter for 11 games. He landed with two more teams after that. He was drafted in the first round by a coach that bet his job on him and lost. Tim Tebow was given the most benefit of the doubt for nearly any player in NFL history and just plain never got any better. Never developed as a passer. The team Florida fans blamed for letting Tebow down broke NFL records just a couple seasons later with largely the same players. On top of that, he refused to do any charity work for Elway or the Broncos unless he was paid his $50k appearance fee. It's time to move on from this lie. https://www.si.com/nfl/broncos/news/tim-tebow-gets-lambasted-in-new-john-elway-book
Won’t give you bacon, but I disagree. Of course he looked somewhat lost, it was his first time starting. He shredded NFL defenses in the 4th quarter when they let him play and opened up the playbook. He never got a real shot after Denver. In fact he balled out in Philly his last game where it was supposed to be between him and Barkley for the last QB spot. I think he threw for 202 yards and 2 TDs in 2 quarters. Everyone thought he won the roster spot and he was surprisingly cut along with Barkley.
Well this is about Trask, who I think was a better passing QB in 2020 than Tebow ever turned out to be, and I think he really has a shot to be successful. So, this is the last thing I'll say. I was such a Tebow fan that I watched the televised Jets preseason practices. While I was watching, he went about 6/13 on passing drills with no defense. His accuracy may have actually gotten worse over his career. You can't say someone never got a shot at a job if they can't answer basic questions in the interview. That article I posted said it best. He simply never stopped doing one read and then the play falls apart. He never learned progressions and never improved in reading defenses. You do not get 4+ years to start to do that in the NFL. No one does.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Seven weeks ago in mandatory minicamp, it looked like starting quarterback was Baker Mayfield's job to lose by a wide margin. But Kyle Trask has come to training camp looking considerably improved -- he's far more decisive with the ball, making quick decisions and big plays each day, and closing the gap between the two considerably. In fact, Trask has put together some of his best practices as a Buc. They're currently alternating first-team reps, and a starter will be named sometime during the preseason. -- Jenna Laine
That’s not how I remember it. We really never got to see his progress, because he didn’t get to show it in NY. Remember, all season he was the backup QB to Sanchez. When Sanchez got hurt, Rex Ryan purposely and inexplicably passed over Tebow to start the 3rd string McElroy. He did it because he hated Tebow’s popularity, and also didn’t want to look foolish for not starting him earlier. So, what we got is exactly what the Tebow haters wanted… he never got a chance to prove that the playoff run wasn’t a fluke or that he had improved. They get to say forever that he was a bust. I love Trask too, but I don’t think it’s correct to say he was a better passer than Tebow in college. They both were great passers, just different and in different systems. Tebow’s passing was statistically elite, but people like to rewrite history for some reason.
Elway definitely has some douche-like qualities, I don't know if that takes away from his anecdote about Tebow tho
Gee..I have no Idea why Tebow had such a low passing percentage in that innovative John Fox offense. Let's see if I remember it correctly...run on first down, run on second, throw deep on third. .
