Ah.. Elon Musk’s vision to turn the app formerly known as Twitter into this generation’s AOL. A portal to nowhere. Maybe Tesla will start crypto mining next.

By the way, I am very happy with Zuckerberg’s Threads. It far less toxic at this point and has a nice interface. I deleted the X app… again.

Not having the ability to embed Threads on the web is a pretty big limitation. People can make an announcement on Twitter and have it propagate through the internet in a platform-agnostic way in moments. Threads is stuck in its own bubble where if you're not in the app itself you have no visibility.

There's also no way to see what's trending or search for certain topics.

Broadcast social media doesn't really work unless you can broadcast. IMO if Threads doesn't deploy those functionalities quickly, it's going to go the way of Google +.

Sounds like a winner. You should buy as much as you can.

When we held up a mirror to Elon Musk’s Twitter/X he tried to sue us into silence | Imran Ahmed | The Guardian

Our reporting has shown that, under his watch, the number of tweets containing slurs has risen by up to 202%; that tweets linking LGBTQ+ people to “child grooming” have more than doubled; demonstrated that climate denial content and accounts are surging; and revealed Twitter’s failure to act on hate posted by Twitter Blue subscribers. Members of Twitter’s own trust and safety council have resigned, citing CCDH findings, and our research has been widely reported by news outlets around the world.

CCDH holds up a mirror to social media platforms and asks them to consider whether or not they like the reflection they see in it. We are proud of our record of investigating and raising the alarm whenever and wherever we discover the proliferation of serious harms on Twitter/X, as well as on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Google, YouTube and other platforms.

Musk didn’t like what he saw in the mirror. But rather than take responsibility and admit the problem, he is trying to sue the mirror.

Attacking CCDH will not remove the neo-Nazis, white supremacists and disinformation superspreaders he has welcomed back
There is a great irony in attempts by this self-proclaimed “free speech absolutist” – to shut down honest debate and fair, research-backed criticism with legal threats.

I know for me, it didn't take a "study" to realize the company formally known as Twitter had become a cesspool of hate speech under the new management. Took about 5 minutes of checking on Ukraine War news to see they let any ol Nazi say whatever they wanted.

Meh. Musk promised severance pay to all those he fired. Didn’t pay and is getting his ass sued bigly. You’d have to be a dope to believe this tripe.

    Oh wait..

It’s a private company. I think they even have an option where you can delete your account, if you are so offended.

Elon has done more to rehabilitate Zuck’s imagine than any high priced PR firm could do.

I have a few thoughts. 1. Will be interesting if he ends up in court defending some nazi skinhead hate monger pedophile or something. I know the ACLU ends up in places like that occasionally to protect free speech. 2. It can be a company's free speech to fire someone too... 3. Is he employing cancel culture to fight cancel culture?

Ya because nothing Elon touches does well…

X is still a highly used app. Elon has always showed he is not afraid to try ideas. If they don’t pan out, he makes changes.

Not sure what will happen but I’d bet on the genius billionaire.

I wouldnt subscribe to blind loyalty though - everyone has a bad day/idea. Paying what he did for twitter to change the brand, chase off customers, and change it into AOL or some stock trading app? Doesnt sound as grounded as say building an electric car.
