I am quite familiar with soccer, the USWNT, and national soccer associations. There are very large talent pools developing in a number of countries over the last decade in women's soccer.

The advantage that the US had in development historically was not the US Soccer Association, which is, historically, a corrupt and largely poorly run organization, but rather with the colleges. We developed talent better because we had a Title IX-driven system pushing out tons of players from top athletic facilities. What has changed is that the big clubs in Europe have now started academies. And, I'm sorry, but even major programs like UNC aren't going to compete in resources and facilities with Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, OL, Milan, Barcelona, etc. Which is why you are now seeing players like Rodman and Smith leaving college early now, whereas players like Rapinoe and Wambach stayed for four years developing.

The coaching was absolutely poor, and I imagine that will be corrected prior to the Olympics. National teams really don't train together long at all. Mostly, cohesiveness develops from long-term culture, coaching, and youth teams, not from facilities or even really training as a unit for the most part.

So you are projecting your own values and concerned about the outward perception of U.S. athletes abroad. This is the U.S. If we are so strong, we shouldn't give two shits about what others think.

I just did. All 3 said a woman is grown female, and a female is someone who was born without a penis, but instead was born with a vagina. My daughter also said something about chromosomes but I wasn't paying attention.

You're entitled to your opinion. But they made the team. You didn't. I fully support their right not to speak.

As for whether my protesting was appropriate, it depends on one's perspective. But we felt it necessary and were willing to accept the consequences.

I bet you would pummel her and AOC if given the chance and all of the other Democrat women in Washington. You'd feel so big and strong

I would never let my son blow off studies to hang with friends first off. And it's not the place for that. It's divisive, there's a time and a place for it and they have already done it. If you want to do what they did then nobody can complain about the flack they catch for it. Works both ways. Especially when they looked horrendous on the pitch, double whammy that they created.

Yet, if your son did, I expect you'd criticize and even punish him for it. Would you be doing that out of love or out of hatred?

They made the team. They think it is the place. You can criticize them for it. I can disagree with you. You can disagree with me. Beauty of free speech. Of course, I'll never understand the folks who refuse to support or even root against Team USA because they're so appalled by our players' free speech.

I don’t follow soccer but know U.S. women have been very successful over the years. Not sure why our mens’ teams haven’t had as much success.

I watched every match with my wife and kids as we love the sport and I didn't root against them, hell my daughter has worn her Alex Morgan kit for a week straight haha, but I wasn't upset when we lost because of the reasons I mentioned. When the men lost I was heartbroken, not because they were men but because they didn't act and carry themselves like the women's team did.

They lost by a single play. After two straight WC beatdowns. #1 all year. Probably still the best team in actuality, but they blew it for sure.

All this meltdown is quite the melodrama. Just like Bama. DONE!! They lost two games last year. OK, also one play each, but it’s a train wreck now!!

And your liberty doesn’t take a single second of life off. I mean I suppose you can choose that if you want, that is itself its own kind of liberty I guess (that is, to forfeit it.) But I don’t recommend it and damn sure won’t be partaking myself.

A single play? Do you know anything about soccer? They beat a glorified HS team by 3 which totally ruined the goal differential, didn't score against a huge dog, tied the Dutch which was the best result we had although we're still a big favorite and couldn't make a Pk to win it. They shouldn't of even been in that situation as a consensus top team. A single play lol. Like everything in this forum this is going nowhere. Premier league starts Friday, can't wait

And if my son or daughter conducted themselves like they did I would say yea you got what you deserved. Do better

One of if not the best women's players ever said the same thing, guess what, people tried to cancel her and call her out, when she was right all along. Was nothing political about it, it was about their actions and how they carried themselves

If the women failing is their karma for being anti-American, cocky, arrogant etc. then I wonder what these geniuses attribute the men’s constant failures to

Our best athletes playing football baseball and basketball and an overall lack of commitment to the sport maybe? And yet nobody was rooting for our men to lose hmmm, wonder why
