If the Rose Bowl had continued its arrogance, they soon would becoming extinct. Remember? Rose Bowl agreement clears way for College Football Playoff's 12-team expansion in 2024 and 2025 I think they just re-brand into the expanded playoffs.
The Rose Bowl (the game) is a playoff game every year moving forward. Every three years its a playoff semifinal game, the other two years its a quarterfinal game. This was the case before the Pac-12 fell apart, so believe it or not this past week didn't really affect it.
They should consider keeping the footprint so it's always the Rose Bowl, but they should demolish the old one and rebuild a nicer stadium in the same spot.... build it and they will come.
It’s been irrelevant most of my lifetime. I really don’t care what they do with it. It’s almost like a baseball tradition. Some unwritten something or another that you just don’t mess with. But outside of some small group of 30 old guys, living in the past, no one can explain it. College Football as we know it, that we grew up with, has changed. I didn’t vote for it …but here it is. Rose Bowl be damned.
Lol This is what people have been bitching about in recent years. Change. Well, this is what it looks like. It’s just that the Rose Bowl on my care level has never been that high. It’s the last remaining conference tie-in bowl game that has outlasted the others by decades. And it was never that good to begin with.
Yep, before the ascension of teams from the south including Spurrier. Since 1990, Nat. Champs from any conference OTHER than BIG / Pac 12 = 5. Nat. Champs from the South = 26. And that is giving credit for some of those double champs some of those years.
Who gives a sh!t? It was the least interesting bowl game back when bowl games meant something. Now bowl games don’t mean anything so really nobody gives a sh!t about it now. Enjoy our new latest and greatest mutation of college football — where “Big 10” players opt out of the Rose Bowl.
The Rose Bowl game was always a great concept... the "tie-ins" were always the flaw that was never fixed... They made themselves obsolete with subpar games... matches. I mean... being "only" BIG versus Pac-12 made that game a dull and boring contest in at least half of the American football world.
Which is exactly why anybody who didn’t live in CA, OH, or MI cared less about the Rose Bowl than the Orange, Sugar, and Fiesta. The “granddaddy of them all” was 95% mainstream media hype over a boring as hell game. See post #18 above
