I’m pretty sure no one has said this. Well done creating a straw man. The argument is that the women’s national team is too well funded, too well supported d with too big a talent pool to play as poorly as they did.

It is a lot closer than in basketball. I think people forget that the US wasn't dominant until the generation with Rapinoe, Lloyd, Morgan, Ertz, Sauerbrunn, etc. The US did not win the World Cup in 2003, 2007, or 2011 and hasn't won the Olympics since 2012. It isn't a matter of one world power in that sport.

You are arguing that their support and resources is on such a different level that they should be "THE dominant team." Given that our players play for the same teams as other national teams' players, there isn't really much difference in resources and support in developing players at this point. The players don't spend their time training with the national team, for the most part, so their funding isn't really important for player development.

I wanted them to win despite the few who protested. Same goes for the USA Olympians who protest. Rapione had a chance to be a hero and choked on the biggest stage which ironically put her in position to protest and be heard in the first place. Good riddance. It’s start over time.

People protest because they love their country and want to see it improve. Whether you agree with their protest or not it comes from a place of wanting to improve. Not hate.

I find it strange that people openly cheer against their own country if there’s someone on the team they don’t ideologically agree with. To me that is more of an example of hating one’s country than a peaceful protest.

America is made up of lots of different belief systems. To hate someone who doesn’t believe like you is inherently un-American.

You can tell who those types of people are with their disdain and constant name calling of anyone who doesn’t think like them. Those are the people who ruin this country.

Not gonna go as far as some, but this team did piss away a lot of good will with their in your face politics.

As such....I never bothered tuning in, and the news of their loss was as impactful as not hearing when the US didn't take the gold in croquet, or trampoline, or synchronized swimming...

Everyone has a right to their opinion, coastal, and yours is clearly not without its reason.

That said, I’d like to invoke one of the core principles of the very country of which we speak: Don’t vest too authority into any single person’s opinion. The world is complex. People love in different ways and express their love in different ways, and it’s not always clear to each of us what is in other’s hearts. Even Mr. Trump’s slogan “Make America great again” suggests that he believes America isn’t great, but clearly there is room for more than one interpretation of his, and anyone’s, meaning.

I can't support any team that airs dirty laundry on an international stage.

In country, feel free. When playing out of the country representing said country, you smile and say it's great to be an American.

You’re underestimating how good other countries are at basketball in 2023. 15 “hungry” G-Leaguers (D-League doesn’t exist anymore) would get mopped by 20 if they played against Canada, Serbia, France etc

Many of these American players aren’t exactly proud of their country either. They sort of asked for the pushback.

One minute you’re humbly asking for prayers for your health, the next minute you’re full of machismo and ready to beat up on women. Nice job!

Agreed. That is why I cheered against every single traitorous man and women in these images from Jan 6th.
