We've got a great discussion going on in the Conference Expansions thread but, specifically, for the Holes and scUM I thought it might be fun to have a poll. They have one on the other side so we should see where everyone on our side stands. The PAC-12 is DOA and the ACC's grant of rights will be attacked sooner or later if not outright voted down by a majority. If/when the ACC falls some of their teams will be poached. So let's see what everyone thinks about these two second rate, but despised, rivals.
I started it. I think they both get spurned . . . although I admit it may be my heart talking over my head. The SEC would look to take schools that improve the TV footprint since it's ALL about the TV $$$. I'd predict UNC and Virginia to the SEC but it may be UNC and Duke. The Big Whatever is expanding westward to capture the pacific zone markets. They would be too big too fast by trying to gobble east coast or Florida teams. Anyway, that's what I was thinking.
South Florida is a fertile recruiting ground. I think the B10 would rather have Miami with their AAU status as a footprint in Florida. The caveat is clearing up the exit fees and GOR.
A lot of fsu's whining if they don't like equal revenue sharing, they will end up in the big12. Miami has big10 written all over them.
Their fate was sealed back in ‘91 by Bowden not wanting anything to do with the tough SEC. Cry me a river!
The only appeal of admitting Miami is the prospect of having them as an annual opponent again. They don't bring all that much to the table.
I want them to end up in the sunbelt but they are both big enough draws to make any conferences they join demand higher tv contracts. They are both top 20 programs.
If the ACC splits up, I think the B1G goes after Miami and UNC over Clemson and FSU due to their AAU status. FSU and Clemson would rather be part of the SEC anyways, and they lobby HARD for that.
I don't want FSU and Miami in the SEC. Why would we throw them life rafts and essentially raise their revenue by 30 mil a year? What is the SEC going to gain? They hardly ever fill their stadiums, even when they are good -- and their viewership is meh. Don't help them out. Vote against this, Stricklin.
You make way too much sense. There's no reason the SEC needs to give those schools more resources to go after recruits in the south, which affects not just Florida but every SEC program. But since we're talking about college football, and adding FSU and Clemson *may* lead to a little more money for SEC schools down the line, they'll probably do it. I'm guessing UF/USCe/UGA will vote against it, maybe UK as well, but most of the other schools probably go along with it eventually.
The SEC does not need weaklings like UNC and uva. Miami? no way. Don’t have 300 million for the ACC buyout. That school adds nothing. Nothing. Dolphins stadium? No thanks FSU had a chance and said no.
Bobby Bowden and his progeny started professional gifting in college football...(Not really but they made a living off of it). They were giving out Cadillac Escalades at FSU well before Bama was giving out Dodge Chargers. Then Bobby sent his sons out and cheated at their new colleges with Auburn buying Cam Newton (maybe after they fired Terry Bowden) and Clemson buying C.J. Spiller while Tommy Bowden was their head coach... and even after the Bowdens left their respective school's they still cheat with the best of them. FSU is a cheating dirty playing football team with a history of shenanigans. Miami and Shapiro... They now have John cheating for them... Both of those two teams play dirty cheap-shot football. So those two schools in question are not really what I would call worthy schools to earn the privilege to play in the SEC. At least the current cheaters in the SEC try play clean football, not in all cases - see LSU and Kentucky last year, and how they ran cheap shots at AR's knee. But cheap shots are not the norm for most SEC schools... with Miami and FSU it's a way of life. We do NOT need them in the SEC. We need some standards and those two schools do NOT rise to that worthy level, in fact they would be trouble for the rest of the SEC, and we here in the SEC have enough trouble makers in recruiting already. Bama, UGA Tennessee, Auburn, A&M and Ole Miss are just some of the schools that seem to have had blatant and obvious transgressions in recruiting. We cannot add more to that list. There are many reason why we do NOT need to give these failing programs a financial life-line... becasue they will never stop cheating and we should never give them the prestige and clout of being in the SEC. They made their bed... let them lie in it... they should be allowed to whither on the vine. These two teams add no new footprint to the SEC in new states, or in territory. All they would do is steal talent away from the Gators... HARD NO from me... hail to the NO. Don't care where they go... to hail would be okay with me.
FSU and Clemson will be snapped up by the B1G eventually. ROI does not make sense for the SEC to add them, but it will make sense for the B1G. Playing defense also does not make sense for the SEC because there are so many Florida schools that are decent backup options to get into the Florida markets and recruiting grounds. If the SEC took FSU and Miami, then the B1G could take UCF and/or USF, who could grow to be substantial programs in time. Miami will be stuck in either the Big XII or what remains of the ACC. Maybe UCF becomes their biggest rival eventually if they jump over to the BigXII. If the SEC expands, I think the SEC will play offense. I think the SEC would take Notre Dame and North Carolina.
I also mentioned in one of my posts how conference games are affected by a 20 and 22 team conference... Do we want to play (in our current format) 10 or 11 game all SEC schedules? That has to be part of the equation along with the footprint too. Another format would have us playing every SEC school once every 3rd year with a more complicated set-up. Like a 4-5-5-5 (9 SEC GAMES) or a 1-6-6-6 (7 SEC GAMES) for a 20 team conference schedule. I don't want to go 3 years to play some teams in the SEC... or some other convoluted set-up.

There are two different questions here - what do we want and what do we think happens. I think almost every Gator fan wants FSU/UM to not have access to major conference money/resources. Especially FSU after Bowden brazenly dodged the SEC admitting fear. What will happen? They both are major TV draws with a LOT of recent uncertainty on the field. Further, FSU brings a long history of off field crap (Winston, academic fraud, etc) and an administration openly whining and airing dirty laundry. UM on the other hand brings a history of dicey boosters (Shapiro, LifeWallet boy). All in all, I’d say the B1G 10 takes UM (more people, AAU), while FSU goes to the Big 12. This will likely be wildly unpopular, but if I’m UF/Stricklin, I consider threatening to leave the SEC for the Big 10 if the let FSU into the SEC. We match up much better academically and college football is just going to be 40-50 teams playing toward a playoff soon enough. The old notion of conferences/rivalries/etc is already toast. Ultimately, I just hate the idea of whiny FSU getting into the SEC after wimping out for decades. Hate them that much…
