Absolutely — I don’t want to see the SEC expand at all. We’re stuck with 16 and personally I wish they hadn’t gone past 12. SEC doesn’t need to change anything as long as they’re kicking everybody’s asses. I mean really — the big 10 and the others can build a 24 team conference and it won’t matter one bit if the SEC keeps beating them.
Well hang on now, who’s to say F$U’s clown college isn’t an academic rival of our Engineering program? If we’ve never experienced it’s rigors ourselves how would we know how mentally challenging it is to be warranted as a college major at, what is reported to be, a major university?
I apologize in advance for the source (Whorechant YouTube Channel), but I think it is important. I was googling about FSU and conference realignment and I came across this video. FSU apparently thinks they can use the Florida legislature to circumvent the ACC Grant of Rights. The Florida legislature could shield FSU from liability in the ACC Grant of Rights. A high powered attorney believes the ACC GOR is not ironclad enough to prevent this scenario from playing out if FSU and the Florida legislature chose to pursue thisas an option. If this is the case, then I would hope the rest of the state would be able to apply pressure to prevent this kind of corruption. FSU needs to keep their word. I would hope our state is better than the type of collusion we saw between the Georgia legislature and UGA football to get Kirby’s Law passed.
My take: FSU shares an Engineering school with FAMU. They don’t have their own. Engineering students at FSU have to drive their car or take a bus 20 minutes for any Engineering class they take to an Engineering campus in a remote location in Tallahassee. FSU’s Biomedical Engineering program is not yet accredited. The Engineering school is not highly ranked. The reason USF and Miami were admitted to the AAU and FSU was not was due to a lack of scientific/technical research and grants. USF has a more highly ranked medical school. UCF had a more highly ranked Engineering and Computer Science program. FSU has highly regarded Criminology program (1st in country) and their Business School (have a new business school building under construction now) is ranked higher than UF. FSU has better campus dorms (no communal bathrooms/nicer dorms/better food options), free parking and free attendance at all athletic events, better student life experience, … Know both schools well. Had daughters that attended both (my wife and I went to UF). Visited both campuses many times as my kids went through undergrad and grad school. FSU has a much nicer Student Union. Daughter that went to FSU had a much better college experience. Daughter that went to UF experienced more stress in college. FSU professors want to help you succeed. UF professors enjoy giving exams where class average is low comparatively. Not as focused on students IMO.

I think the acc would be better off staying together. They won more titles than anyone except the sec lately and could get lost in the mix a bit. They still have that easy path and it’s proven successful.
It’s not about history and wins and losses. It is all about the cash, and they’re right in being concerned. Their (long term) TV contract is way behind the SEC and BIG, way behind. This puts their budget at distinct disadvantages in being able to remain long-term competitive against the big boy conferences. And, add in that their TV contract is with ESPN, who has zero incentive to increase the payments. In all likelihood, it would be cheaper for ESPN to add on pro rata shares to the team that join the SEC in expansion. And let Fox fund the expansion of schools that join the BIG.
The greedy adults in the room don’t show any loyalty to their conferences and will leave the PAC-12, ACC, Big 12 etc in a heartbeat for more money. Then people will wonder where money-hungry college athletes learn the behavior from LOL

I’m sure Florida State law could supersede a contract or make a contract null and void. If FSU is looking for a way out of a contract, it could likely turn to the State legislature. As a State of Florida public college, the Legislature can likely dictate the contracts any school can sign. For example, they could limit forward looking contracts with State schools to no more than 10 years by passing a State law signed by the Governor. They could also legislate that all contracts have an out clause upon 1 year notice and a penalty of no more than 10 percent of the contracts total value
I just can’t see them pushing this hard if they haven’t been reached out to. Of course it would be funny to see them get out of the ACC and nobody wanted them.
I think this kind of corruption would bring a lot more negative press to the state of Florida than any other kind favoritism FSU has benefited from in the past. This is a lot bigger than putting classrooms in a football building to justify the state legislature footing the bill as an academic expense.
But longterm with a better deal it might be to their advantage. It’s been a top-heavy conference, though that only three teams maybe are worth paying for for TV. That’s the reason I don’t see taking North Carolina and Virginia into the SEC. If they really add nothing. I understand the footprint of the TV market but those games just aren’t primetime games.
Do you think both those teams would be able to recruit better and put together a better product carrying the SEC banner? I think they would be able to steal a few home grown players away from Clemson and other regional schools.
