Conference Expansion

The SEC needs to figure out a way to get UNC, NCSU, UVa and VT. It is likely neither NC nor Va will allow one school to move without the other. IMO, those are the best options for the SEC to get from the remaining pool. Clemson and f$u are good football names at the moment, but neither really adds anything to the conference. Would you take them just to block the B1G from potentially taking them? Neither fits the profile of a B1G institution.

Bring in the four NC & Va schools, stand pat at 20 and fill in our missing southeastern geography.

 

Nailed it. Neither legislature is going to allow one state school going in without the other.

There isn't any reason to take any of the rest of the ACC schools. Let the BIG take Clemson/F$U and $cum.

BTW, college football is dead. Greed killed it. Without the tradition, the geographic rivalries and now the professional costs of the player mercenaries (with zero loyalty to the name on the jersey), it will die a slow death as each generation loses interest.

What PE firm will just settle for a seat at the table? They are about two things: control and profit. You can bet they are either going to have > 50% control over the finances or an iron-clad contract that pays them a return on their investment that is paid first before the school sees a dime.

 

I’m not sure a conference covering as much territory as the Big Ten now encompasses is going to work. I know that TV money is the engine that’s driving this but the distance some of these teams are going to be traveling is not only costly but time consuming. And it looks pretty certain that travel costs are going to increase in the future.
I’m sure the schools have done research on feasibility of this expansion but, it wouldn’t be the first time a project has failed because the lure of instant gratification didn’t account for long term effects.
Someone pointed out earlier on this thread that at the very least the Big Ten should have different conference structures for different sports. Football only may be the only answer for teams in “Super Conferences “.
I lovED college football when it was about the old boys from Florida playing the old boys of Georgia for pride and bragging rights for a year. And even occasional intersectional matchups had appeal. But watching Rutgers take on Arizona on a glorious Saturday afternoon isn’t going to make too many of us drop the plow lines and come out of the field to watch.

The Pac-12 is dead as we know it, just don't expect the Big Ten, Big 12 or anyone else to take the blame

 

10 should have a division set up some way to ease all the travel. Not sure it’s possible but maybe if they take more west coast teams it becomes possible. Not only are travel expenses a problem but how do you think our players class time is affected by going to Utah on a Thursday. Imagine every other week like that. It’s just not doable for students.

 

I wonder when we'll start hearing about the possibility of adding a 13th regular season game.

I’d guess expanded playoffs are where the extra weeks will go, I doubt extra games.

 

As long as they are prepared to have away games entirely, why not? They ain't Hawaii...

I hope this puts a big fat mustard and ketchup colored bullseye on their backs and every team in the ACC gets up to beat their ass this season. That dump just continues to show their true colors. Scummiest school in the NCAA

 

Florida and Georgia and USCe need to circle the wagons and re-commit to each other that they’ll vote against any of the 3 in-state rivals joining the SEC

 

How can this not be affecting their recruiting?
