If FSU sells their soul, they should be treated like they are radioactive. I can't even imagine the threats of lawsuits and instability that would be created by having a for profit corporation have a seat at the table, never mind a vote in how the conference is run. What conference would want to be saddled with that?
Maybe that Apple deal is the best the PAC 12 could get. When the SEC demands more money than the BIG (and probably get it), is there a cap on what the networks or streaming services can afford to pay? I mean, eventually there's a ceiling right? A business is not going to pay more for something that they will get in revenue return right?
That should just about do it for the Pac ## as a conference. Oregon, Washington and Arizona all appear to have accepted invites elsewhere with Utah and ASU to follow.
The schools use the money from the tv contract, and, back when boosters could not pay players, this was largely determinative of how much money would be spent on your program, and influenced recruiting through "facilities" and making things nice to spectacular for the players. With NIL you can much more directly induce the players. You line up the NIL money right, FSU and Clemson will have not issue fielding nationally competitive football teams. The facilities and travel budget of the track, crew, and tennis team may suffer, but football recruiting can still be rich and elite.

Big IF . . . there are additional teams added to the SEC . . . the Holes actually believe their "brand" brings more value than the brands and markets of UNC or Virginia (or Duke which wasn't mentioned in the article)? It's now clear why they're pimping that fake news which shows the Holes the #2 TV ratings team (from only 2014 it appears). Florida gets $30,000,000.00 a year more than short-sighted us. Waaaaaah! LOL!

Oregon and Washington, plus Arizona were all reluctant to put the PAC out its misery. Looks like the three colluded to make announcements around the same time, so the blood on multiple hands. I, for one, will miss the PAC. Great schools and great destinations. Seattle, the Oregon schools, both not far from the coast, San Francisco, LA, all great destinations, and much more than college towns. Lubbock? Lawrence? Ames? Been to these towns and maybe if I was 20 something again, they'd be fun? But I'm a long way off from 20-something, and have no desire to return.

True. But I have less reason to visit. Been to Arizona games at both LA stadiums, both Bay Area locations, Eugene, and Seattle. Been through Corvalis, SLC, and Boulder too. Never did make it to Pullman. As for the PAC, Utah and ASU have formally applied to the BIG12. This leaves Stanford, CAL, WSU, and Oregon State. Feel bad for the Beavers and WSU Cougs, but what can you do? They will likely merge with the Mountain West, and become Group of schools.
Lets grab Cal and Stanford. Bad idea, yes. But just because it’s a bad idea doesn’t mean it won’t be a good time! Trips to wine country every 2-3 years. I’m ok with that. Plus they will boost the SEC’s academic pedigree. ACC schools not available for a while sooooooo what do we have to lose?
If the BIG goes to a 22 team conference... just for fun, not saying they will, but then in order to play every team in your conference every other year you have to go to a 1-10-10 or some other combination that adds up to playing an 11 game conference only schedule. 22 is something that sounds good if you like our 2020 covid schedule and want to play almost exclusively only SEC foes. If the SEC were to do this (I DO NOT WANT...) then we'd have only one OOC game each year. In our case it's FSU. A 20 team conference would be, in the same breakdown, a 1-9-9 format every other year. And that is a 10 game conference only schedule. This and the other above are predicated on having one yearly opponent and the rest of the teams in your conference being played every other year.. I like where we are for now, and I like the 18 team conference that we now have. We need to wear the 18 game conference for a while... I also think that we need to make damn sure we do not saturate our league with useless teams that add NOTHING to our footprint. IOW, if we expand it should be into North Carolina and Virginia... new states, new viewers. Adding another team from Florida or South Carolina makes no financial (gains) sense to me. Plus we do not need to give any other team in Florida the prestige/bank/security that took the Gators and all the other SEC teams decades to achieve... no cheap and easy lifelines to the nole or canes.... Lol at UCF.

For selfish reasons I could dig Virginia or NC schools joining. Easy road trip for UF games when they play.
All major professional team sports except those with an education side hustle. Imagine the NFL without a draft or the scheduling model. Or F1 car running against F150s. That close to what we have now.
