Desantis Agrees to Debate Newsome

Yeah, I mean, if DeSantis plays his cards right, he could use this to make a pretty good showing for himself. The facts are what they are. Indigenous Californians have been flocking to Florida for years. California is an unmitigated disaster and it hasn’t improved under Newsom. In my view, unless DeSantis is a really horrible debater, he can’t lose by doing this. And in general, I think debates are a good thing for both parties. I loved when Bernie and Cruz debated on CNN. I wish more politicians were like them.

Both DeSantis and Newsome have win-win with the debate. MAGA will love DeSantis for taking in the Democratic boogeyman. Democrats will love Newsome for taking on the MAGA boogeyman.

 

I agree. I wish there were more one on one debates like this between the two major parties.

 

Agree except DeSantis isn't maga. In fact they hate him for opposing trump.

 

I see DeSantis as “MAGA in lawyer form.” Which is why he’s less attractive to voters who love Trump’s earthiness populism, despite the fact he’s a billionaire. Trump is truly one of a kind, in so many ways.

Presidential debates don't even matter, this will matter even less. All the dorks that will watch this already have their minds made up about things. More people will watch a random WNBA game than this.

 

Can I ask how he expects to do that? I mean the facts are on DeSantis's side. People leaving CA in droves and FL is number 1 for migration. FL is number 1 in schools. Florida's has the best economy according to CNBC.

CNBC: Florida has the best state economy in America.

 

If I was DeSantis, my opening statement would simply be “Over the past 10 years, x number of people have moved from California to Florida. And y number of people have moved from Florida to California. Any questions?”

No BS thanking such and such for hosting the debate, no congeniality, no silly platitudes. Just those words and move on to the questions.

 

I am hoping that this is just a stunt to get DeSantis somewhere at a certain time and place, and the FBI walks out and arrests him for kidnapping immigrants and flying them across state lines against their will.

 

I agree it won't change minds for sure, but it will crush the ratings when this happens. But the WNBA can't get ratings unless Lebron changes genders.

I’m not sure this stat isn’t itself a platitude. If we are just going to use popular numbers, the CEO of McDonald’s would wipe the floor with the chef of any high end restaurant.

 

Kudos to Newsome for conceding home field to DeSantis. Really shows how delusional, er, confident he is.
