I think it's also a major contributor to our obesity issues. So few of our cities are designed to promote walking anywhere. Everything is spread out based on "just a short drive."

It is very simple, it comes from a like of fatherhood in these low income communities. Specifically, the black community, which a lot of these kids come from. Almost 80% of black children are born into a single mother household.

This is what LeBron was lacking in his upbringing and why he’s so active in his children’s lives. He should use his platform to promote this subject, family is important to build a strong foundation for children if he wants to truly affect his community in which he comes from.

Even birds know to build a nest before laying the eggs. The black community has lost this concept and that is why the black community is struggling.

I agree with most of this but think that the race is unneeded. The poor in this country have a poor record of marrying before producing children. Grandmas do too much of the child rearing in the poor community. Often without a grandpa in the picture.

I brought up the race because that is the race that LeBron was targeting. He has spoken constantly about helping the black community, however, has gone about in a misguided way.

Exactly. Not the only contributor but you can bet we'd have less of an obesity problem if cities (and suburbs!) were designed around people.

Not sure what exactly is misguided in starting a school that focuses on the most at-risk youth.

    What would you do?

Focus on the importance on having a mother and father in the home. Focus on adults establishing relationships and marriage before having kids. There are 33 forms of birth control a woman can take before sex to prevent having a baby. He can promote these agendas, instead of throwing money in the school system in low income areas which this country has been doing the last 30 years or so. It isn’t working, education starts with a foundation and values within the home.

All statistics show that single parent household children are at the greatest disadvantage and detriment. However, we keep producing these single mother kids in the abundance.

Agree about encouraging these behaviors. But we also have to deal with the here & now and that means dealing with the issues that stem from poverty and single-parenthood etc., which means trying to get a better education for those at-risk children right now. That is why I wondering why you would call it misguided.

Getting fixed and condoms. Unfortunately, men control with this process of getting into relationships and getting married really. Women control getting pregnant and making babies and having sex.

What will help is putting either the majority of men or all men in those schools like the “I Promise School”The majority of these kids haven’t had any male leadership and that will have start at a younger age. Because a teenager taking on a male leader for the first time, will reject it because there’s misplaced anger for their father’s not being in their lives for all their lives.

Some of them will no doubt have anger issues and abandonment issues and other problems that put the risk in "at-risk" though these are not all teens. (School serves 1st - 8th grades). That's the stark reality of the situation.

Speaking out about the importance of fatherhood etc., isn't going to help those kids right now. Dealing with the effects in the school setting, however, might help a lot, or at the very least has that potential.

But the battles in the present are always going to be uphill and often seem like lost causes because the fight is to help these children runs up against established forces that make them at risk in the first place.

Comes across as pretty misogynistic. Men AND women are responsible for birth control. To be honest, you’re not really giving men any credit by assuming that they can be very easily led around.

I’d like to think that most men have a bit more integrity than that but maybe not given the number of men that walk away from their responsibilities.

Again, as a man, I keep my feelings out of it. The numbers, however, speak for themselves. In the black community, 80% of black children are born in a single mother household. Yet, there are 33 forms of birth control that women can take before sex. Yes, men should not be having unprotected sex. But, there is two forms of birth control that a man can take while having sex, yet there are 33 forms of birth control before sex for women. The numbers are very clear here. They speak for themselves. Can you refute that?

Again, these kids are getting all the resources money can buy for them to be successful in school. However, it starts in the home for these children. This is a case study of the root cause of the issue unfortunately.

These kids need therapy and male figures in their lives right now. These kids are broken because the decisions the parents made.
