Really interesting chart. I’m curious of the source of the figures. It’s stunning that FSU has more eyes than Texas, or USC, for example. I also am disappointed they have more eyes that us. Im also surprised Auburn has more eyes on them than us.

I agree with you completely. The only teams out west that make sense are the ones that have been in the playoffs. That's USC, Oregon, and Washington. The B1G already took USC, along with UCLA, which has a great brand, great academics, and an excellent basketball pedigree. There's a reason why ORWA are the only other two being seriously considered. Stanford is in the mix too, but moreso because of academics, and Stanford's ties to Notre Dame, which is the B1G's white whale.

Any other team out west will not move the needle for the B1G or SEC. The only reason more teams out west get taken would be to fill out a 24-team super conference. This is an idea I think the TV networks like, because it means only spending and covering 24 teams, while having enough content coast-to-coast to maximize revenues and lower spending. I.e., most profitable. But assuming ORWA join the LA schools in the B1G, adding any remaining west coast schools dilutes the SEC, who should be, and is happy being the big dog in the area of the country where college football has the most fans and most passion.

The PAC is already dead....they just haven't pronounced the time of death yet.

It’s fun to watch for me, but I can appreciate why a purist wouldn’t like it.

We have already had that for a number of years if you included the PAC in the Level 2 list. What amazes me is the electors still putting so many Big12 teams in the playoffs where they generally get hammered. Now that UTex and Okie have moved on, hopefully that will be the end of that.

The big difference now is $$ and you can bet your Bottom $ that the BIG will get some of that excess TV money to recruits one way or another. Rabid fan support only goes so far as the $$ they throw into the pot to acquire talent now.

The Egg bowl has been pretty entertaining the last several years. Bama-Awbrin has had its share of noncompetitive games.

Don't get me wrong, I love some high-flying Spurrier-esque O, I just love it more when there is a slobber-knocking D on the other side. As much as is leaves me a disgusting taste in my mouth to say it, Georgia's defense was a thing of beauty the last 2 years.

Nothing official, but 247Sports' Jason Scheer is reporting, as of 2 hours ago, that it is "likely" that Utah will join Arizona and ASU moving to the Big-12 and the Big-12 would like to announce all 3 tomorrow.

If you have numbers for viewers earlier than the last ten years that you feel are more pertinent than the recent ones, share with us.

Thanks for this explanation. So with carriage, the semi hole houses are paying for us to be on their cable box whether they watch or not, correct? Then is there a bump in the revenue if there are high ratings indicating a lot of people are watching?

I'm with you on the curiosity part. I'd be interested in where his data was pulled from.

My guess would also be that IF that data is correct, it is HIGHLY skewed by FSUs appearance in the 2013 BCS Champ Game and 2014 BCS semi-final. If that is the case, and I'd nearly guarantee it is, then the data he posted isn't very useful. Without the whole country watching those two games, FSU's aggregate viewership data would drop SIGNIFICANTLY down the list.

The discussion here is about conference realignment and TV money, and the data will show FSU cannot be relied upon for tv viewers in the same realm as UF, Texas & USC... and it's not even close.

UF had a losing record the past two years and yet in aggregate we had substantially more (4.78M - 3.3M) viewership than FSU over that period.

Here's the source for my data:

    2022
    Florida - 2.57M
    FSU - 2.03M

    2021
    Florida — 2.21M
    FSU - 1.27M

this is true but the point I’m making is that ESPN is paying for that Bama Auburn game and they don’t give a shit about the Ole Miss Mississippi State game
