Trask is so much better. FSU fans in the Bucs fanbase desperately don’t want him to see the field so they can declare him a bust.

I had season tix for the Bucs '97 - '06 and sat near a bunch of semi fans. There was a whole bunch a banter and nearly fisticuffs at one point. The NFL fanbase tends to be under-educated ;). As for Trask, I had a soft spot for him since the day he stepped foot in Hogtown. He didn't even start in HS, but came from a monster program in TX, with the starter going to Houston. I suspected that he just might be a gamer and he sure was. Would love to see him excel in the NFL.

Worst thing that could've happened to Trask was Bowles getting the HC gig. He wouldn't know a good offense if it came up and grabbed him by the dingle. Kind of like Flores almost crushing Tua before he got started. When your idea of a great offense is "just don't screw it up" that's not good. I hope Trask manages to survive it and isn't deemed a flame out because of poor coaching. Most teams are moving to offensive-minded coaches who then hire well on the defensive side. Defensive-minded coaches don't do the same, typically. They want conservative OC's, trusting their D to deliver low scoring wins, or they start to override their OC's when things get close. (Yes, I'm generalizing, but pretty accurate in the League these days...)

Hold up. We may actually have a legitimate quarterback battle down in Tampa. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield to come in and battle Kyle Trask for the right to replace Tom Brady under center. The average fan would view Mayfield as the heavy favorite to win the job, but the competition has apparently been close as of late.

Tuesday, Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales was asked if the quarterback competition has tightened since the start of training camp. Canales answered with, "Oh yeah, absolutely," per the Tampa Bay Times.

and Trask hasn't raped anyone, lied to everyone, threw a dozen pick sizes, or molested an Uber driver...

1000%. Exactly what I said to myself. Doubt they told Brady your #1 job is don’t turn the ball over. He’s not a good head coach.

Mayfield is probably too preoccupied with living conditions in the stadium.

Kyle was just a pleasure to watch, literally exploding on the field against KY and then his Sr year had the greatest statistical season in Gator history.

Yeah, I'm biased, it would be fun to follow the Bucs with big Kyle over center.

I still think Mayfield starts (the politics of it may win out), but short leash and Kyle wins the job in the first half of the season.

Haven’t watched Bucs since the lowlife owners drafted that pos. I’ll be forced to peak if Trask starts.

Um Kyle, practice throwing the ball, not trying to catch it.

First (in case you think I am going "there"), I think that Tomlin is a damn fine NFL HC and would gladly take him on my team if he wanted to leave the Steelers. But Bowles and others are prime examples as to why a rote hiring process of minorities is rife with errors. Not that the owners don't like to project themselves onto the HC and it is easier to do with traditional coaches, but still, just because you are next does not mean you will be successful. It is the Peter Principle.

The best thing about this scenario is that Kyle has the temperament to pull it off. I do think that Mayfield is damaged goods and he will show it. The best part of his game was his "Protect your house" commercials with his wife in Cleveland.

I'm not a huge NFL devotee but Kyle will not be given a fair shake. I've rarely seen the brain trust that runs NFL teams to ever make a correct call in a situation like this. Kyle's character and demeanor work against him with a new coach and office like TB seems to have.
