    Inside your head.
So even the Head Ball Coach with all his knowledge and experience can let his heart overrule his head. We amateurs can then be excused for getting too far out over our skis.

I've been a Gator fan since before dirt was invented and I too have let my heart overrule my head so many seasons in the past. I too got carried away with a new staff and all the hype about CBN's plan to bring the Gators back to the Promised Land.
I think CBN is still building towards 2024/25. We have a lot of ??? on defense, a new QB and a lot of inexperience not to mention a tough schedule. I think a 7-5 season and a bowl invite would be progress in year two and set CBN up for a ten win season in 24 and dare I say an SEC crown in 25.

I don't think Okie State would agree with that.

Okie State was 4-7 that year, losing to three teams with losing records. That said, the Gators didn't struggle to score a lot of points against quality opponents (except for Tennessee). Spurrier DID benefit from a top defense his first two years, but he had a VERY strong, if not indomitable offense in 1990-1992 as well. By 1993, he and the Gators were damned near unstoppable...

Well last year was a roller coaster. I was thinking 7-5 type season before it began and had my hopes up after Utah that 9-3 was a real possibility. Looking back though after beating A&M UF was sitting at 6-4, and I still think the vandy loss was the one game that basically killed everyone's potential for a positive outlook on the season.

I think 7-5 is possible this season, I am optimistic, but until proven otherwise I'd rather have that Outlook. If I had put money on it, the season win total is set at 5.5. I think the over is still the play. UF will be favored against Charlotte, McNeese, vandy, and at Mizz maybe Arkansas in the swamp depending on how the season is going. Is it possible UF beats 2 of UK, USCe, Tenn, Ark, why not?

Okie State was not the school we know today. It wasn't good.
Our 2nd game that year was at Bama. We won 17-13, but 7 of those came from a blocked punt. So we scored 10.
The next week we played Furman- and scored all of 27.
Then in mid season we could only manage 3 measly points vs. the Vols. Losing 45-3.

So the point remains- first year performance even under good coaches usually is uneven.
Hopefully CBN will improve his 2nd year.

You see it with your eyes, you can see when guys aren't out of position, when there aren't so many blown plays, penalties etc. When you are making the same mistakes in week 10 that you were on week 1 then you haven't had steady improvement. I think you can go back through our season and see it didn't matter who we played, we did a lot of the same things. This was probably due to year 1 of learning new systems on both sides.
To address your average loss of 14 pts and 7pts, a loss is a loss, we aren't TN looking for a moral victory.

I guess the short answer is looking for execution improvement week over week. I think that would be a step in the right direction.

My main worry is Napier does a fantastic job improving the roster and getting this team ready but the schedule is just too much. This team could take a huge step forward and still lose 5-6 games. A couple bad breaks, a couple close games where they just have that guy behind center, a couple games where we're basically playing NFL teams, all culminating in a season that feeds the feedback loop.

7-5 is good, but then we are looking at an even harder schedule next season and another huge step forward could result in 7-5 again, or even 6-6. I hope Napier gets time because I do anticipate steps forward both years. We'll see. Hopefully we get some breaks this year and are able to win 8+. If that happens, then things start to get really fun with finishing 24 class and jumping into 25 class.

Agreed except - man it's fall camp! We could have been 0-12 in 22 and I would still be getting cranked up for the coming season!

This is why we MUST defeat Utah. I mean if we beat them and improve every game, my logic says: 15 - 0 ! OH MY!!!!!!

Earlier in movie, yes. When Call questioned him about not letting doc take second leg, he called them pigs.
    No matter. Best movie.

I like our chances this year… especially on the defensive side of the ball. If you really dove into who Armstrong really is you will see why he was pulled from southern miss to Bama. Just go back and watch the liberty game ( Hugh Freeze ring a bell?) they went 8-1 beating the breaks off BYU and a close win over Arkansas. Southern lost that game by 2 points and Armstrong was bringing pressure all game. I can’t wait for this season to kick off and the direction we are headed!

There is definitely a quiet optimism within the staff this year. A few that are close to it have indicated that Nape LOVES it that the national narrative is that we won’t be any good. He finds it humorous.

We are absolutely a young team. That is my biggest concern for ‘23…BUT we have moved on from a lot of dead weight and malcontents. I’m confident that this year won’t be a repeat of the last one. The 5.5 line is an insult… and an easy bet for me.

After UT in week 3, the talk among the media will be …”wow, I didn’t see this happening” …that’s my gut.

The kicker is Utah, for me. Win in SLC we are 9-3 …lose, and we are 8-4. I have a feeling we’ll be 6-1 going into Jax ranked 10th or 11th … and then, end the season beating the clowns.

The season will not be a failure by any stretch.
